Learner Conversations will take place after school during Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 3

- Wednesday 22nd July - Room 20 only (3.15 pm to 4.45 pm)
- Thursday 23rd July - All classes except Rm 17 (3.15 pm to 7.00 pm)
- Tuesday 28th July - All classes except Rm 17 & Rm 20 (3.15 pm to 6.15 pm)

Matariki Celebration & Market Day
We warmly invite our school families to join us for our Matariki Celebration and Market Day at David Street School.
|
Matariki marks the Mฤori New Year and is a special time to come together, reflect, celebrate, and connect with whฤnau and friends. We would love you to join us as we share some kai and celebrate this important occasion.
|

This year, our celebration will be a little different. As part of our Matariki learning, your children have been busy creating and preparing items for our Market Day, which will be held during the event. More details will follow soon.

โ๏ธ As these are frozen products, all orders must be collected from the school on Thursday, 25 June.

Please note that you will be collecting the entire order associated with your fundraising efforts, which includes any purchases made by family and friends. You can then distribute these items to your supporters.
|
Some orders may be quite large and may not be suitable to send home with students. We encourage you to make arrangements for collection on the designated pick-up day.

Cookie Fridays: Every Friday this term. Place your child’s cookie order by 10 am Fridays from the Home & School Shop.

Yummy Apple Stickers: Don’t forget to remind the kids to bring in their Yummy Apple stickers. By collecting them, we can claim some fantastic sports gear for our school later this year!

New Gymnastic Leotards thanks to DSS Home and School Committee
The Gymsport team of 2026 would like to extend our sincere thanks to David Street School’s Home and School Committee for their generous purchase of new gymnastics leotards for our students.
|
|
Our gymnasts are excited to receive their new leotards and will proudly wear them at the upcoming Gym Sports Day on Friday, 26 June.
|
This generous contribution will help our students feel confident and represent our school with pride. Student feedback was positive, and the girls felt gorgeous when they fitted them this week.
|
|
The ongoing support of the DSS Home and School Committee makes a real difference to our students and school community. We are grateful for their commitment to providing opportunities and resources that support student participation and enjoyment.
|
|

In the last newsletter we talked about Cognitive flexibility - the ability to pay attention and switch attention from one task to another.

Everyday Life: They help you manage daily responsibilities, such as cooking, shopping, and household chores.

Work and School: They are crucial for learning, completing assignments, and succeeding in a career.
|

Emotional Regulation: They enable you to manage emotions and respond to situations appropriately.

Room 14 & 15 Animal Reasearch
|
Room 15 and 14 have been working hard on our writing to share some of the fantastic facts we have learned about different types of animals.
|
We have to think about our audience and what they might like to find out when we write our stories.
|
|
Today we all shared our amazing new learning with each other.
|
|
The children buddied up and shared what they knew about skinks and blue whales today. It was such a joy to see them reading their stories and sharing their learning together.
|

Basketball Fun Day
|
Last week, a fantastic group of our Year 6 leaders headed down to The Events Centre to host our annual Basketball Fun Day.
|
|
All term, these students have been practising and learning the skills and rules of basketball, putting in a tremendous amount of hard work behind the scenes.
|
Taking full ownership of the event, they were responsible for organising and running all the games for six visiting schools.
|
They consistently displayed our core values of excellence and responsibility by being fully prepared and ready for every single game. Throughout the action-packed day, our leaders truly shone, and we are incredibly proud of what they achieved!
|
|
Thank you to the Home & School Committee and their helpers who ran the canteen on the day. We greatly appreciate your time and ongoing support of our school. Proceeds from the canteen contribute directly to the Home & School Committee's fundraising initiatives, which benefit our students and school.
|

Room 10 Matariki Market Day Preparation
|
This term, Room 10 has been busy working towards the upcoming Matariki Market Day on
|
Tuesday, 30th June. The concept is woven through many curriculum areas.
|
|
As part of our Financial Mathematics, we have been exploring the concepts of money, costs,
|
|
and pricing. Through both collaborative and independent work during the statistical inquiry
|
|
process, students gathered and analysed data to make informed decisions about the products
|
they would like to buy or create for sale.
|
|
Literacy learning has been closely linked to our Market Day preparations. Reading and discovering
|
|
about markets, importing and distribution. We have developed our persuasive writing skills by
|
creating eye-catching posters to encourage customers to attend the Matariki Market Day.
|
Adding a creative element to our learning, students have been constructing paper mâché pots to sell at the Market Day. This process has seen great creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance as students designed, built, and began decorating their projects. The classroom has been filled with enthusiasm as students watched their ideas come to life.
|
|
It has been wonderful to see the creativity and determination that all learners have demonstrated throughout these activities. We look forward to sharing the finished results at the Matariki Market Day.

Mud Run

What a fantastic day and perfect weather for everyone at the annual Mud Run!
|
|
Over 80 DSS students from our senior school participated in the day.
|
|
