🏆 Livestock Day & Group Day Trophies

It is time to polish up your Livestock Day & Group Day trophies from last year and return them to the David Street School Office.
We are also hoping to keep the Kid Goat category going this year, so if you are entering a kid goat or can enter a kid goat, please get your entry in ASAP.
Livestock entries are due in by 4th September.

The Kowhai Team have been working hard this term to bring you an unforgettable performance of Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies and are extremely excited to perform for you.
|
Seniors begin the week from Sunday, with a big day of practise before the live performances on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
|
|
We wish the Kowhai team all the best; we know it will be a great success!
|

This year, we’ll be using 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, and we’re sure you’ll find it an easy and convenient way to purchase your tickets. A link to purchase has been sent out to all parents/caregivers of senior children.

We are currently very low on spare clothing for our junior students. If you have any clean, good-condition pants, skirts or shorts that your child has outgrown and you would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate your support.

Online GP care now free for ākonga 13 and under
With health services experiencing high demand, online GP care is an option for accessing care and the service is now free for all ākonga up to, and including, the age of 13.
|
Appointments usually take place through a video app or a phone call and the service can prescribe medicine and send prescriptions to your nearest pharmacy. It also provides another care option for rural communities.

Kauri Team - Moving, Learning and Growing Through Weekly Sport and Dance Rotation
|
Our Kauri Team students have been enjoying a fantastic weekly rotation of sports and movement activities, including volleyball, dance, soccer, basketball, skipping, hockey practice, and Tapuwai. This variety provides opportunities for students to develop a broad range of movement skills while building confidence, cooperation and enjoyment through physical activity.
|
A special part of our rotation is Tapuwai, a traditional Māori ball game adapted from Kī-o-rahi around 1900. Played on a court, two teams use passing, teamwork and strategy to knock target tennis balls off cones from the scoring zones. It is a great way for students to develop their throwing, catching, passing, spatial awareness and tactical thinking while connecting with Aotearoa New Zealand’s sporting and cultural heritage.

Across all activities, we are linking our learning to the New Zealand Curriculum for Years 3–4, particularly developing movement skills, teamwork, decision-making and positive participation. We are also intentionally weaving in our DSS Values and Learners Tool Box, encouraging students to show respect, cooperation, teamwork, communication, responsibility and a positive attitude towards themselves and others.

Raffle Ticket Fundraiser
|
There is a Pizza Lunch prize for the class that sells the most tickets. There are 2nd and 3rd-classroom prizes too!
|
|
If you have tickets you cannot sell please return them to the school office so we can pass them on.
|
|
All tickets are $2 each. Please return money and sold /unsold tickets to your child’s teacher by the 4th of September.

Senior School Speech Finals
Congratulations to our 10 senior students who competed in the DSS Speech Competition Finals on Tuesday.
|
|
It has been wonderful to see our students' preparation leading up to the finals, demonstrating confidence and excellent speaking skills on the day.
|
|

Room 8 Fractions
|
Room 8 has been busy immersing themselves in fraction learning this term.
|
|
Recently, our focus has been on fractions that are equal to each other- equivalent. To make equivalent fractions, we have learnt to fold paper into even strips, count in fractional increments and shade in the fractions needed.
|
By using representations, this has helped us visually make the connections with common multiples and know what to multiply by to make the fraction pieces smaller.
|
|
By knowing which fractions are equivalent, we have also looked at comparing different fractions with different denominators by making them visually. Take a look!

Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon

|
Entries are now open for the Cambridge Weetbix-Tryathlon on Sunday, 6th December 2026.
|
|
The TRYathlon is all about giving it a TRY and is a rewarding and fun day out for you and your child.
|
|
Participants need to be aged 7-15 years old on event day, and can complete the TRYathlon as an individual or in a team of two. Participants need to be 6 years old on the day to compete in the Splash & Dash (smaller event).
|
|
David Street School has entered a School Group which you can join when you register online.
|
|

By linking to our school, it will give us the chance to win some great prizes. We will also have our school marquee set up at the event on the day, where we can cheer each other on and celebrate together.

The Davies family were recently presented with a generous $500 donation after selling their property through Danielle Callaghan from Harcourts Kevin Deane Real Estate.
|
The donation will go directly towards the Home and School Committee’s fundraisers.
|
