We hope your children have had a positive and settled start to the term.

Term 3 is shaping up to be a busy and exciting one, with lots happening across the school. Starting with Learner Conversations in Weeks 2 and 3—bookings are now open (see further in the newsletter for details). There’s also Hockey, Miniball, the Junior Production ( Hullabaloo at the Zoo), Middle School Speeches, Piako Cultural Festival, Board of Trustees elections are also happening this term.

|
The Book Fair & Dress Up Day that was planned for this term has been postponed. We will let you know when we are able to reschedule it.

Launch Pad begins. Every Thursday morning in Term 3: 8:20 am - 8:45 am. This is for those children whose caregiver has registered them to attend through school.

Reporting Student Progress and Achievement
The New Zealand Curriculum recognises that learning is like a roller coaster. We all learn at different rates, sometimes the learning clicks, and sometimes it takes a little longer. At David Street School, we recognise this journey.
|
Yesterday, you would have received a Hero post/email from your child's teacher that included a progress statement on how your child's learning is tracking against their year level expectations in Reading, Writing and Maths.
If you have any questions about your child's learning progress based on these statements, you can discuss them at the upcoming learner conversation meetings next week. If you cannot attend, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher via email.

Learner Conversations
Learner Conversations will take place after school during Weeks 2 and 3 of this term.
|
- These conversations provide a valuable opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to connect and discuss:
- Academic progress and next learning steps
- Social and emotional well-being at school
- Attitude and effort
- Any other topics or questions from whānau

How to Book Your Learner Conversation
You can make an appointment by:
Scanning the QR code which will take your directly to bookings.
Clicking the ‘Learner Conversations Bookings’ link below ( should you need the code it is: fgmeh)

Alternatively, feel free to phone the school office, and our office team will be happy to assist you in securing a time.

Election of Parent Representatives to the
David Street School Board of Trustees
|
|
|
|
Nominations will open on Friday 18th July, for the election of 5 parent representatives to the David Street School Board.
|
Schooled Election Pilot has been appointed as the Returning Officer for this election and will oversee the entire process.
|
|
All eligible voters will receive a nomination pack, either by email (if we have your email address on file) or by post (if no email address is available)
|
The nomination pack will include:

A cover letter explaining the nomination process

You can nominate yourself or someone else from the school community. If you are nominating someone else, please ensure they are aware of the nomination and willing to accept it.
|

You may provide the following with your nomination a candidate statement and a photograph with your nomination.

Information on who is not eligible to be a School Board member will be included with the nomination form.
|

If you require additional nomination forms or would like a version in Te Reo Māori or another language, please contact the Returning Officer:

This term, the Walker family generously donated a $500 cheque to the David Street School Home and School Committee after selling their property through Danielle Callaghan at Harcourts Kevin Deane Real Estate.
|
Danielle Callaghan from Harcourts Morrinsville has been running a special promotion to support families from David Street School, and we are incredibly grateful to be part of it.
|

Celebrating Former DSS Students Making a Difference
|
|
On Tuesday, we went to Morrinsville Intermediate to thank and congratulate four former David Street School students. We met with the principal and the deputy principal of Morrinsville Intermediate, who were so kind and welcoming to us.
|
Last year, while at David Street School, the students helped the school by using our DSS values and taking on challenges. They researched and gathered information to find new ways to improve our school crossings and keep everyone safe.
They have been role models for us.
|
|
We now have new signs and road markings to indicate to drivers when they have to stop.
|

New Netball Gear from ANZ
|
We were very lucky to receive a Netball grant from ANZ, which included 1 Netball bag, 5 Netballs, 4 sets of new bibs, 10 spot markers and a ball pump. Thank you, ANZ, we very much appreciate these!!

Netball - End of Season Congratulations
A huge congratulations to all the students who represented our school in netball this season! It’s been wonderful to hear consistent feedback about your sportsmanship and the way you demonstrated our DSS values.
|
|
A special mention to the DSS Jetsetters (pictured below), who were awarded "Most Outstanding Team" – an incredible achievement!
|
|
Well done to all the players and a heartfelt thank you to our coaches for your time, energy, and support throughout the season.

YUMMY STICKERS
We are still collecting yummy stickers for our school. Drop them into your child's classroom. Last year, with your support, we received over $400 worth of PE equipment!

Scooter Safety with Youthtown
|
|
At the end of last term, Pip and her amazing team from Youthtown visited our school to run an engaging scooter safety sessions with our students.
|
|
These sessions provided valuable tips and practical advice on how to stay safe while riding scooters.
|
|
Students learned the importance of wearing the right safety gear, including helmets and closed shoes, and gained a better understanding of how to be aware and respectful when using footpaths and shared spaces. The team also highlighted key hazards to watch out for and how to ride responsibly around others.
|
It was a fun and informative experience, and we’re confident our students now feel more prepared to scoot safely in their communities. A big thank you to Pip and the Youthtown team for delivering such a valuable programme!
|
Please remember, for safety reasons, students are not to ride their bikes or scooters on the school grounds at the beginning and end of the school day.
Students are required to walk their bikes and scooters in or out of school during school time.

Report an Absence
|
|
It is very important that you notify us when your child will be absent.
|
There are a couple of ways you can do this:
|

- Phone - 07 889-7780 (option 1) & leave a message
|
Did you know you can send absentee notifications quickly & easily to us through the Hero app? This is the simplest & fastest way to let us know when your child will be absent from school.
|
|
For safety reasons, you must notify us if your child will be away from school. It also saves the office staff a lot of time following up.
|
