Kōwhai & Kauri Athletics Day – Tuesday, 4 November (Years 3–6)

Athletics Day is coming up next week for our Middle and Senior School students!
|
|
Below is an outline of how the day will run.
|
|
Start Time: 9:10 am (approx.)
|
Sprint Finals & Relays: From 1:45 pm (after lunch)
Spectators are invited to watch from the bank.
|
Event Rotations: Each age group will rotate through events every 20–25 minutes.
|
Please note that times are approximate and may vary slightly on the day. If you’re planning to come along, we recommend arriving early to ensure you don’t miss your child’s events.
|
Weather Postponement
If weather conditions require us to postpone Athletics Day, we’ll notify families via the school app and Facebook page on the morning of the event.
|
Children Leaving Early
We ask that all children remain at school for the full day.
If parents or caregivers need to sign children out early, this must be done through the school office.
|
|
If someone other than a parent or caregiver is collecting your child, please notify the office in advance by:
|
|

Include the name of the person collecting your child. Even if they’re already on your authorised pick-up list, they must still sign out at the office.
|
|

Gumboot Friday is on Friday, 7 November.
While we are not collecting money, we will be helping to raise awareness for people struggling with depression.
Depression can feel like walking through mud every day.
Show your support. Put your gumboots on and take a walk in their shoes for just one day.
It's a fun way for kids to join in the mental health conversation.

🎗️ Diabetes Awareness Day – Wear BLUE!
|
|
Next Thursday, we’ll be wearing blue to show our support for children living with diabetes.
|
|
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition that is often diagnosed in childhood. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the cells that produce insulin, meaning people with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to stay healthy.
|
|
Let’s turn our school blue next Thursday to raise awareness and show our support! 💙

Calendar Art Orders
|
|
Calendar Art Order Forms have gone home with every child today Thursday.
|
|
Your children have been working hard on their Art for this year’s calendars. Calendar Art order notices with a unique code for you to order your child’s calendar artwork, will be going home this term. These make fantastic Christmas presents. Calendars, cards, diaries, mouse pads and sketch pads are available to order.

Waris received his award for showing excellence in all areas of his learning. He is a self-aware learner, pushing himself to achieve his learning goals at every opportunity. His diligence and hard mahi is reflected in the outstanding progress he is making. Keep up the wonderful work Waris!

In recognition of Savreen's exceptional sense of responsibility and dedication. Her commitment to working hard and striving for excellence in all areas is truly inspiring. Savreen's positive attitude and perseverance sets a high standard for others to follow.

Kahleesi
Kahleesi received her award for consistently demonstrating kindness, respect, and responsibility. She approaches every aspect of school life with perseverance, courage, and a positive attitude. We are incredibly proud of her efforts and all that she has accomplished through dedication and hard work.

Waiapu is a kind and respectful student who always shows the David Street School values in everything he does. He shows respect to his peers and adults. He shows responsibility when working independently and ensures all of his peers are happy and included.

Freddie
Freddie brings positive energy to our classroom that consistently motivates others. He is friendly, patient and a great role model for his peers. He works hard every day, ensuring he reaches his full potential. We are so proud of everything that he has achieved in the Kowhai Team, and know he will continue to thrive at Intermediate.

Kaelynn
Kaelynn is a kind, positive, and enthusiastic learner who always gives her best effort. She shows responsibility in all she does and can always be counted on to do the right thing. Kaelynn approaches her learning with curiosity and commitment, striving to be the best learner she can be. Her kindness and positive attitude make her a valued member of David Street School.

Ashdon
Ashdon received his award for being a team player who encourages and celebrates others. Ashdon is a humble high achiever who strives for excellence. Well done, Ashdon!

Under-12 Slam Basketball Tournament
Over Labour Day weekend, Harrison and Allan took part in the Under-12 Slam Basketball Tournament in Auckland, representing their Waikato Country team.
|
Throughout the tournament, they demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and embodied the core values of David Street School in every game.
|
After playing six hard-fought matches, they made it to the final. Although the game was tough, they proudly walked away with the silver medal.
|
|

Mrs E's Kitchen This Term
Friday Lunches are available on non-pizza lunch days and are delivered to your child's classroom in time for Lunch.

The Home and School Committee is a dedicated group of parents working to enhance our school’s learning environment through fundraising. Without parent support for our fundraisers, the committee would not be able to support the children and the school in the way they do.

We are always seeking more committee members. Keep an eye on our newsletters for upcoming committee meetings; we would love to see some new faces.

Middle School Pickleball Competition
The much-anticipated Middle School Pickleball Finals took place last week, and what an exciting event it was! A big thank-you to Jacky Hutchings for organizing and running the competition. The students showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, making it a truly fantastic contest from start to finish.

Weetbix Triathlon
Weet-Bix Tryathlon – Cambridge, 7th December
|
If your child is keen to take part in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon in Cambridge on Saturday, 7th December, make sure to register under the David Street School group when signing up.
|
|
The Weet-Bix Tryathlon is a fun-filled day where children get to swim, cycle, and run in a supportive, family-friendly environment.
|

6-year-olds (Splash & Dash): 50m swim / 1.5km run
|

7-year-olds: 50m swim / 4km cycle / 1.5km run
|

8–9-year-olds: 100m swim / 4km cycle / 1.5km run

When you register with the David Street School group, you’ll receive a discount on delivery fees for your Tryathlon pack. Packs will be sent directly to David Street School the week before the event.

Room 19 Celebrates Diwali – The Festival of Light
|
Last week, Room 19 was learning about Diwali, the Indian New Year.
|
|
We discovered that Diwali is also called the Festival of Light, and it is celebrated by lighting candles, decorating homes, and creating beautiful rangoli patterns at entrances to welcome good luck.
|
We designed our own rangoli patterns using flowers and sand. We noticed that many rangoli designs use symmetry, which links to our recent maths learning with Mrs Byers.

Keeping this information current is essential to ensure we can reach you quickly in case of an emergency and provide the best possible care for your child.

Report an Absence
|
|
It is very important that you notify us when your child will be absent.
|
There are a couple of ways you can do this:
|

- Phone - 07 889-7780 (option 1) & leave a message
|
Did you know you can send absentee notifications quickly & easily to us through the Hero app? This is the simplest & fastest way to let us know when your child will be absent from school.
|
|
For safety reasons, you must notify us if your child will be away from school. It also saves the office staff a lot of time following up.
|
