If you have a child starting at David Street School in 2026, please contact the school office on 889-7780 and check if we have your correct details on file.

If you have not informed us of your pre-schooler starting in 2026, please also contact the school office so we can enter their details onto our enrolment list.
This will help us with our planning for next year.

Swimming
|
The school pool is open from this week. Classes will be swimming most days. Please check with your child's teacher for schedules.
|
|
To ensure clothing is not mixed up or lost, we ask that all togs, towels, and goggles are clearly labelled with names.

Orders placed by 12 November will be delivered first.

We invite all year 6 students and their parents to attend this special evening where the children will showcase their dancing talents. This takes place from 6.30pm - 8pm. We ask that every family brings a small plate of finger food to share.

This will start at 9.30am and takes place in the covered courts.
This is a special morning where all year 6 students will receive
their graduation certificate.

Food Drive for Community House – Mon 1 Dec – Fri 5 Dec
Around Christmas time there are always more people who struggle, especially now
with the cost of living going up.
To do our bit to help, we are collecting donations of food from Monday 1 Dec.
• Our Christmas Sleigh will be set up in the office entrance.
• Children can take their non-perishable food item to their classroom and we will
collect it during the day and place it in our Christmas.
• Food will be delivered to Community House for distribution.

Dress-Up Day Friday 5 December
We will be having a fun Summer Holiday / Christmas theme dress-up day on Friday, 5 December. Please do not buy anything for your child to wear. We will be using what
we have available at home.

Middle and Senior School Athletics Day
Congratulations to All Our Athletes!
Well done to everyone who participated in the Athletics competition which was held on Tuesday, 4 November.
For parents of students who have qualified for District Athletics (Wednesday, 19th November), notices with further details will be going home with students who qualified.

The Home and School Committee is a dedicated group of parents working to enhance our school’s learning environment through fundraising. Without parent support for our fundraisers, the committee would not be able to support the children and the school in the way they do.
|

We are always seeking more committee members. Keep an eye on our newsletters for upcoming committee meetings; we would love to see some new faces.

Maths Competition
|
We hosted the inaugural Pangarau e Piako Maths Competition. This is a team-based maths competition for Year 5 & 6 students, which was organised and run by Morrinsville College teacher Adam Kemp and his students.
|
|
We had 36 David Street School students compete against teams from other Morrinsville Primary schools, solving maths problems in a timed format.
|
It was a great chance for college students to be leaders and support the younger students.
|
|
Our Year 5 team of Rachel, Amy and Carter were the Year 5 winners.
|
|
Two other David Street School teams came 2nd & 3rd in the year 5 competition.
|
|
We also had a Year 6 team finish in 2nd place in the Year 6 competition.
|
|
|
|
|
|

Weetbix Triathlon
Weet-Bix Tryathlon – Cambridge, 7th December
|
If your child is keen to take part in the Weet-Bix Tryathlon in Cambridge on Saturday, 7th December, make sure to register under the David Street School group when signing up.
|
|
The Weet-Bix Tryathlon is a fun-filled day where children get to swim, cycle, and run in a supportive, family-friendly environment.
|

6-year-olds (Splash & Dash): 50m swim / 1.5km run
|

7-year-olds: 50m swim / 4km cycle / 1.5km run
|

8–9-year-olds: 100m swim / 4km cycle / 1.5km run
|

10–15-year-olds: 150m swim / 8km cycle / 1.5km run
|
|
When you register with the David Street School group, you’ll receive a discount on delivery fees for your Tryathlon pack. Packs will be sent directly to David Street School the week before the event.
|

It'll be awesome to see lots of David Street students taking part in this fun day!

Ice Cream Making in Room 10
Room 10 had a cool science and cooking experience, making homemade ice cream in a bag!
Each learner worked with a partner to mix cream, sugar, and vanilla in a small bag, then placed it inside a larger bag filled with ice and salt. After lots of shaking and laughing (and freezing hands!), the mixture turned into smooth, delicious ice cream.

The class agreed it was a huge success — some of the things they said were:

"Best day ever!"
"This is even nicer than real ice cream!"
"I want to make this at home!"
"The ice made my hands so cold, but it was worth it!"

It was a fun way to learn about states of matter, temperature changes, and a sweet reward for our effort!

Junior Athletics - Week 8 - Wednesday 26 November

Time: Start 9.10 am - 12.30 pm (approximately)
|
|
We would like to welcome our whaanau to join us for our Junior Athletics day.
|
We will start on the top field with sprint races. The races are as follows:
6 year old boys
6 year old girls
6 year old Finals
5 year old boys
5 year old girls
5 year old Finals
7 year old boys
7 year old girls
7 year old Finals
After a short kai break, each class moves around a rotation of athletic activities, run by our year 6 leaders. We will be finished by lunchtime.

Community Notices
|
|
IHC is a nationwide organisation supporting people with an intellectual disability and their families.
|
|
Our role is to advocate for people with an intellectual disability. This support is not just for people living in IHC’s residential homes or in supported living, but for people with special needs and their families living in the wider community.
|
|
In recent years, the IHC Waikato South Association Committee has reached out to Schools, Early Learning Centres, Community Hubs and Health and Welfare providers, in the Matamata-Piako area. We have donated books with a disability theme to ELCs and Schools, together with an Information Pack. We have also given schools the opportunity to apply for funding to purchase Equipment and Resources to assist students with special learning needs.
|
This month, through the generosity of the Lions Clubs in the area and other donors, IDEA Services (the Service Delivery arm of IHC) , have just opened a Sensory Room in the IHC building at 51 Station Road Matamata.
|
You are invited to the Sensory Room Open Day on
Saturday, 15 November from 9am to 3pm.
|
This will be an opportunity for Teachers and Families to visit this brand-new facility to see and hear how this room with its specialised equipment, can be of benefit to many people within your local community
|
