Port Waikato Camp Yr 5 & Yr 6
We wish our Year 5/6 Senior children all the best for camp next week. We are sure they will have a fantastic time and create life-long memories.
|
|
Please check your senior child’s bag and emails for last-minute notices going home this week regarding camp, gear to take, drop-offs, pickups etc.
|
If you have any questions please contact your child's teacher.

School Turn-Around & Drop Offs on Monday & Wednesday
We encourage all parents of children not attending camp to leave drop-offs until after 8:15 am at the David Street entrance or alternatively, use other entrances (Cobham Drive or Studholme Street)
|
- All camp students should arrive at school between 7:10 am and 7:30 am. Please ensure your child arrives within this time frame.
- Upon arrival, please drop your child’s gear off in the classroom (Te Ao Marama).
|
The Staff Carpark has been designated for camp helpers and those transporting children to camp on Monday. For safety reasons, please only park here if this is you.
|
Parents' towing trailers will be parked in front of the hall.
|
|
We ask all parents of children not attending camp to use the other entrances for school drop-offs (Studholme Street or Cobham Drive).
|
Please note, that the school turn-around entrance on David Street will be closed to vehicles stopping until after 9:00 am to ensure the safe arrival of camp students and parking of buses picking up our camp students.
|
- On the morning of camp (Wednesday, 19th March), all camp students should arrive at school between 8:15 am and 8:30 am.
- We encourage parents of camp children to park on the street and walk into the school to drop off their camp child/ren.
- Once at school, please drop your child’s gear in the classroom (Te Ao Marama).
|

Absentees
|
The absence line is available 24 hours 889-7780 ext 1 or you can use our School App to notify us when your child is away.

If your child is unwell please keep them at home and contact the School Office before 9am to let us know.

|
Our School App is the primary tool for communicating important updates and information with our school community. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to download it today. Through the app, you can also notify the school of any absences.

NETBALL 2025
Registrations are now open online at our David Street School Shop.
|
The season will begin on Wednesday 30th April for Years 1/2 and Year 3/4
|
|
Thursday 1 May for Years 5/6
|
All games will be at Campbell Park Netball Courts.
It is important to note that there will be a quick turnaround for registrations and the closing date is Friday 4 April, as we need to get our teams registered with the Morrinsville Netball Association before the end of this term.
|
Notices have gone home with those children interested in playing netball this season.

Sun Smart Policy – School Hat Fees
Our Sun Smart Policy requires that children must wear school sunhats (supplied) in the playground during Terms 1 and 4.
The School charges a small fee of $5 per annum. This fee goes towards maintenance (cleaning and purchasing new hats).
|
|
We are able to charge this minimal fee because the Home and School Committee puts towards the cost of hats from money raised through fundraising.
|
|
|
|
|
2025 hat invoices have been added to all school accounts. You can check your school account by logging into Hero.
|
Payments
|
Fees can be paid via our David Street School Shop or by Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after-school care program (CFK) and school-related items like sports fees etc...

MTB Champs Te Miro
Several children from David Street School enjoy Mountain Biking at the Te Miro MTB Club on Waterworks Road. The Te Miro MTB Club is a volunteer-driven organisation that works to promote and facilitate Mountain Biking in the Te Miro and wider Waikato region. They
often have open days and fun family events. Have a look at their website

Last weekend Emma Rayhin, Harper Davie, Ayla Clark, Harrison Lee, and Lincoln Jamieson represented David Street School at the Waikato Schools MTB Championships held at the Te Miro Club.

Principal Awards

David Street School celebrates children showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school. Recipients of the Principals Awards were:

Samuel received his award for demonstrating the David Street School values in everything he does. Samuel is a natural role model, who shows respect to not only teachers but also his peers. He shows responsibility and excellence in his learning by completing tasks to a high standard and trying his best in everything he does.

Ryder received his award for demonstrating outstanding excellence, courage, and responsibility in his learning. He approaches challenges with determination, embraces new learning opportunities with great enthusiasm, and consistently strives to do his best, all with a positive attitude. Keep up the amazing work Ryder!

Elijaha received his award for showing a fantastic positive attitude to all his learning! He is a courageous learner who continually asks questions to support and deepen his knowledge. Elijaha strives for excellence in all he does by taking responsibility for his learning with an eagerness to take on new challenges!
|
Micheal received his award for showing excellence in his mahi. He always works so hard in the classroom, completing every task to the highest standard. Michael you are a role model to others in the class, consistently showing respect to your teachers and classmates.

|
Aaliyah received her award for the way she approaches her learning with determination and a ‘can do’ attitude. Aaliyah’s positivity makes a difference to our classroom culture.
|
Carter received his award for an exceptional attitude towards all learning. He pushes himself every single time to aim for excellence. Carter thinks carefully and critically and asks questions to gain a deeper understanding. What a fantastic learner you are!.

We are collecting Yummy fruit stickers so we can claim some FREE sports gear for our school! The more stickers we collect, the more sports gear we can get.

District Swimming Competition
|
Last week, our district swimming team had an amazing day at the competition. A total of 36 David Street School students participated, competing against other local schools. We are incredibly proud of each swimmer—everyone gave their best effort and swam exceptionally well!
|
|
We are still waiting for the official results and will share them when they become available.
|
A big thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time, supported, and cheered for our swimmers. We truly appreciate your continued support.

After-School Messages for Students
|
If you need to send an after-school message for your child, please call the school office by 2:20 pm to ensure we have enough time to pass the message on before the afternoon bell rings.
|
|
We kindly ask that you avoid sending private messages regarding after-school arrangements or absences, as these are not always checked promptly during the busy school day. This helps us ensure that important messages are relayed to your child on time.
|
|
Late to School /Appointments
|
If your child arrives late to school, please have them sign in at the office before heading to class.
|
|
For a smooth start to the day, we encourage students to arrive between 8:30 am and 8:45 am so they can settle in and be ready for the school day to begin at 8:55 am.
|
|
If your child needs to leave school early (for a doctor or dentist appointment, etc.), they must be signed out at the office by a parent or guardian.
|
|
If someone else will be picking up your child, please notify the office in advance by phone.
|
|
General Information
|
|
Lost Property
|
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
|
|
Any lost property not claimed each term is donated to charity.
|
|
