We hope that you all had a happy summer break over the school holidays.
David Street School Staff and Board of Trustees would like to warmly welcome our new families who joined us this week.
Our school has sprung to life again with the sounds of joy and learning echoing through our classrooms and playgrounds. It is wonderful to see our children happy and adapting well to being back at school.

Our Home and School Ice Block Friday Fundraiser starts this week on Friday 7 February and continues on every school Friday this term.
Go to the Home and School Shop to order your child an ice block to have at lunch time. Ice blocks are $1.
• When prompted, Please change your child’s classroom from last year to their new classroom.
• Please only order 1 Ice block per child.
• If your are ordering for the term, you will need to place an order for each Friday and each child.
• Add them all to your cart and pay for all orders at the end of the transaction.

Getting to Know our Learners Meetings Whakawhaanaungatanga
|
|
Our teachers are dedicated to making learning exciting and engaging for every student. A key part of this is understanding our whānau's aspirations for their child and their learning journey.
|
|
These meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school, allowing us to better support your child’s learning needs. They’re also a chance to share your thoughts on your child’s interests, aspirations for the year ahead, and to ask any questions you may have.
|

Powhiri
On Wednesday morning we held a Pōwhiri to officially welcome new staff members, new students and families to David Street School. We appreciated the support of our many kaumatua, parents and whānau who were able to attend.
We wish all new members of our David Street School family a happy and rewarding time with us.

Harper Brownlie Wakeboarding Champ!
|
Last September, senior student Harper Brownlie travelled to the Gold Coast to compete in the 9 & Under World Wakeboarding Championships.
|
|
We were thrilled to see her take to the stage and secure an impressive 3rd place!
|
This week, Harper was excited to receive her well-deserved trophy, a testament to her hard work and dedication.
|
|
Harper’s journey into wakeboarding began with family fun on the water.
|
|
She now trains every weekend, whenever possible, and also participates in wakeboarding sessions with Shreddy Wakeboarding School during the summer months.
|
|
Congratulations, Harper! We’re incredibly proud of your achievements!

Sun Smart Policy – School Hat Fees
Our Sun Smart Policy requires that children must wear school sunhats (supplied) in the playground during Terms 1 and 4.
The School charges a small fee of $5 per annum. This fee goes towards maintenance (cleaning and purchasing new hats.
|
|
|
|
|
We are able to charge this minimal fee because the Home and School Committee put towards the cost of hats from money raised through fundraising.
|
Please check your Hero Financial account as Hat Fees have now been loaded. For those with credit on their school account, hat fees have been taken from this.
|
Payments
|
Fees can be paid via our David Street School Shop or by Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after-school care program (CFK) and school-related items like sports fees etc...

When using Internet banking to pay for school-related items/fees please remember to reference what you are paying for and if applicable your child's name so we can allocate your payment to the correct place.

Kauri Team
|
The Kauri Team has kicked off 2025 with energy, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of teamwork! As the summer sun shines, our students have been making the most of the warm weather, engaging in exciting team games that promote collaboration, communication, and fun.
|
It’s been wonderful to see everyone embracing new challenges, encouraging one another, and enjoying the outdoors. With such a fantastic start, we can’t wait to see what the rest of 2025 has in store for The Kauri Team!

After-School Messages for Students
|
If you need to send an after-school message for your child, please call the school office by 2:20 pm to ensure we have enough time to pass the message on before the afternoon bell rings.
|
|
We kindly ask that you avoid sending private messages regarding after-school arrangements or absences, as these are not always checked promptly during the busy school day. This helps us ensure that important messages are relayed to your child on time.
|
|
Late to School /Appointments
|
If your child arrives late to school, please have them sign in at the office before heading to class.
|
|
For a smooth start to the day, we encourage students to arrive between 8:30 am and 8:45 am so they can settle in and be ready for the school day to begin at 8:55 am.
|
|
If your child needs to leave school early (for a doctor or dentist appointment, etc.), they must be signed out at the office by a parent or guardian.
|
|
If someone else will be picking up your child, please notify the office in advance by phone.
|
|
Bell Times
The bell times for morning tea and the lunch break have changed slightly to better suit our children's needs. Morning and end of school day remain the same.
|
8.15am Children may enter school
8.55am Start of the school day
11.00am – 11.30am Morning interval
12.45pm - 1.30pm Lunch interval
2.45pm Bus Bell
3.00pm End of the school day

|
Note: For safety reasons, pupils should not arrive at school before 8.15am.
|
Those arriving before this time, must wait in the shelter at the main gate.
We do have Before School Care available in our Care for Kids programme from 7.00 am each school day.
|
|

Absentees
|
The absence line is available 24 hours 889-7780 ext 1 or you can use our School App to notify us when your child is away.
|
|
If your child is unwell please keep them at home and contact the School Office before 9am to let us know.
|

Lost Property
|
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
|
|
Any lost property not claimed each term is donated to charity.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Communication
|
Our School App is the primary tool for communicating important updates and information with our school community. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to download it today. Through the app, you can also notify the school of any absences.
|
|
|
|
|
We also encourage you to like our Facebook page, where we share news, photos, and updates about school events.
|
|
For general information, visit our school website, which includes details about our staff, Care for Kids (our before/after school and holiday programme), enrolment, school calendar, and term dates.
|
|
Our weekly school newsletter is distributed online through the School App, Facebook, Hero, and email. It’s also available on our website every Thursday. The newsletter contains school news, upcoming events, photos, and other important information.

Swimming in Term 1
Swimming for Junior and Middle School
|
The Junior and Middle School students will be swimming most days in our school pool.
|
|
Please contact your classroom teacher regarding swimming start dates. The best way to do this is via email.
|
Teacher emails can be found on the David Street School website (go to the Our School > Staff tab or click on the teacher profile to view their email address) at www.davidst.school.nz, or alternatively, on our School App.
|
Swimming for Senior Students
|
Senior students will be taking the bus to the Morrinsville Town Pools for swimming lessons.
|
|
At the pools, there is an Olympic-sized pool for confident swimmers, and a shallow pool for those less confident, where the focus will be on building water confidence and having fun.
|
Senior Swimming Days at the Morrinsville Pools:
- Week 2: Tuesday & Thursday
- Week 3: Tuesday & Thursday
- Week 4: Tuesday
Essential Items for Swimming:
- ALL students are required to bring their togs and towel.
- Goggles are optional.
- Please ensure that all items, including togs, towels, and goggles (if used), are named. This helps us return items to their rightful owners.
- Togs and towels should be packed in a waterproof bag to keep other items dry.
