The Menzies College PTA is running their Christmas Raffle again and welcomes donations of non-perishable grocery items to make up hampers.
By now a Christmas hamper raffle should have made it's way home and out of the school bags of the eldest or only child of each family. It would be appreciated if each family could sell 5 tickets at $2 each. Please ask for extras at the office if you feel you can sell more. Please return all ticket butts, money and grocery items to the school office by December 7th. Unsold tickets must also be returned.
Thank you for supporting the Menzies College PTA Christmas Hamper. The funds raised by our amazing PTA go towards sporting equipment, trips and resources that can be enjoyed by all students, such as picnic tables and trees for our new orchard.

Wheels Wednesday Well-being Wonder

A great day was had on the tennis courts on Wednesday this week. Mr Power and some Year 12 students set up a 'Wheel Wonderland' filled with activities and challenges - they even had convinced Constable Julie Russell to come down with her speed gun, to find the fastest Menzies students. It was an energetic day and many students showed off their speed and their skills. Thank you to all of those who helped and to all who attended for making it a success. Mihi atu.

Who knew that Kingston Trevithick could do a wheelie on grass for 35m, or that Charlie Blackmore and Beau Pemberton were so good on wheely chairs? Or that Rueben Constantine can run faster than he can scooter, and that he was the fastest thing clocked that day at 34Km/h on a bike? However, Kody Crump and Ben Guthrie were a close second on the "Around the post" event. Lastly who knew how much fun and energy Mr Power has when an object with wheels is around? He won all the staff events - he rawe koe!

Junior Social Science Presentation

During term 3 the Year 7 and 8 students had projects to complete that were based around topics in Social Science. The Year 7s looked into celebrations and the Year 8s looked into different disasters.
On Wednesday 1st November, we had our presentation evening where our community could come and look at the amazing work completed by the students.
Well over 100 people attended the evening which was a great success.
Well done to the winners and place getters (listed below) and the two students who took out the People’s Choice Award for 2023 - Baylee Morris and Beau Pemberton.

Year 13 Dress-Like-a-Teacher Day

The Year 13 cohort have been keeping us entertained during the last 4 weeks with their changing daily dress-up themes. This is a Menzies tradition for our Year 13 leavers each year. We have enjoyed eagerly anticipating what they will come dressed as each day. We have had sports stars, movie characters, dream occupations, and 'wearing another school's uniform' day. A highlight was 'dress like a Menzies teacher' day - Reece Lynch made it very hard for us to locate the 'real' Mr Lewis as he made his way around the school!

Ex-Menzies student on the world stage - Adventure Racing

Last week Menzies ex-student Dean Stewart, as part of New Zealand team FEAR Youth, competed at the Adventure Racing World Championships in South Africa. The NZ team of four placed 9th overall - an incredible achievement as they are the youngest ever team to compete at this event. This 700+ kilometre race, in which teams could take up to 9 days to complete required the teams to mountain bike, trail run/ trek, river kayak and navigate through African terrain in scorching heat. What an incredible achievement. Below is a link to the AWRS Facebook page if you wish to hear more about the team's experience.
