End of Term Update
|
As our busy term comes to an end, we’d like to thank you for your continued support. School finishes tomorrow, Friday 27 June, at the usual time of 3:00 pm.
|
We wish all our families a safe and happy two-week break and look forward to welcoming your children back on Monday, 14 July for the start of Term 3.
|
|
As you can see in this newsletter, it has been a full and exciting term.
|
Looking ahead, next term promises to be just as eventful, with Learner Conversations in Weeks 2 and 3 (bookings are now open—see further in the newsletter for details), as well as a Book Fair, Hockey, Miniball, Junior Production, and Cultural Festival, and more.
|
We’d also like to congratulate Morrinsville Intermediate on their fantastic production, 1841. Our senior students had the opportunity to attend a performance of the show on Tuesday. Staff and students were thoroughly entertained and impressed. It was also very special to see some familiar faces among the cast—former David Street students performing with confidence and talent.
|

We currently have a large number of our DSS sports uniforms, including shirts, jackets, and singlets, unaccounted for.
|
Could you please check at home in case any items have been accidentally forgotten about?
If found, we would greatly appreciate it if they could be returned to the school office.

Reminder: Board of Trustees Elections
|
The Board of Trustees elections are coming up, with Election Day set for 10th September 2025.
|
|
This year, voting will be held online. To ensure you are included on the electoral roll, the school office must have your current email and residential address.
|
|
Any updates should be provided no later than 16 July.
|
|
If you are unsure whether your details are current, please don’t hesitate to contact the office to confirm.

Netball Season 2025
The netball season for 2025 has come to an end this week.
We would like to thank everyone involved, especially our coaches and managers.
|
We appreciate the time and commitment you have put into each team, and without you, the season would not have been possible.
|
Netball Uniform Returns
Please return netball uniforms and shirts to the school during the first week of Term 3. Ensure they are cleaned and ready for the next season. If the uniform came with a numbered bag, please return the bag along with the uniform.

Term 3 Hockey
|
Term 3 for Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students
|
📅 Season Dates:
Fridays, 1st August – 5th September (6 weeks)
🕒 Game Times:
First round starts at 3:30 PM, last round at 5:00 PM (exact time depends on team numbers)
📍 Venue: Morrinsville College Turf
💲 Cost: $15 per child
🛡️ Equipment Required:
Mouthguard, shin pads, and a hockey stick (a limited number of sticks are available to borrow from school)

There’s always strong interest in hockey, but we are limited in the number of teams we can enter—places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
|

To make this possible, we’re looking for parent coaches and managers to support teams during the Friday games.

David Street School celebrates children showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school. Recipients of the Principals Awards were:

Lottie consistently shows all of the David Street School values. She is a delight to teach, and a role model to everyone in Room 7. DSS has gained a shining star this year.

For consistently demonstrating David Street School values whilst at Care for Kids. She is always respectful to staff and the other kids. Bailey has an amazingly positive, easy-going attitude that is a joy to be around and is an excellent example for her peers.

What a special day we had last Thursday, celebrating Matariki with our friends and whānau!
A huge thank you to the over 600 whānau members who supported us — your presence made the celebration even more meaningful. The tamariki were so proud to share what they had learnt about Matariki.

Reading with Rotary Awards
Morrinsville Rotary Club and Paper Plus Morrinsville are kindly sponsoring prizes to promote reading in our school and other local schools.
Each term a student from the junior, middle and senior school will be awarded a prize for significant reading progress.
|
|
|
|
Ana is a dedicated learner who always shows excellence in literacy. She has been working hard to apply what she has learnt with Miss Hazlehurst back in the classroom and thinks carefully about the decoding and letter-sound knowledge she knows so that she can read new texts accurately.
|
|
Cooper has shown outstanding dedication and resilience in his reading this year. He has worked hard, stayed focused, and never given up, even when things felt challenging. He embodies what 'Kia Maia, Have Courage' means in reading. His outstanding progress is a true reflection of his determination to become the best reader he can be.
|
Jaxon McCarthy - Principal Award
In our concept sessions, Jaxon constantly asks questions about our topics, wanting to delve deeper into his thinking. He thinks of questions that no one thinks of and connects his prior learning and knowledge to these topics. Jaxon not only works hard during these sessions, but will often work in his own time on his concept projects. Jaxon, keep being curious about the world!

Cameron received his award for his amazing reading progress. We are thrilled with how Cameron has pushed himself with his reading. He reads information to help him with his writing and all his other learning. Cameron loves to read, and we are very proud of him.

Morrinsville Junior Netball Festival
|
A group of our netballers recently took part in the Morrinsville Junior Netball Festival. They were proud to represent our school as the only DSS team competing among 39 teams from across the Waikato region, including Hamilton, Thames, Ngatea, and more.
|
|
The team—Charlee, Summer, Quinn, Ayla, Matilda, Lilly, Blair, Emma, and Shaylah —played five games throughout the day. While they didn’t come away with any wins, the girls had an amazing time, demonstrated fantastic teamwork, and showed outstanding sportsmanship against some very tough competition.
|
|
A special thank you to Phoenix Ward, who did a great job umpiring for the team on the day. Well done to all involved!
