Our busy term has come to an end. School finishes tomorrow, Friday, the 5th of July, at the usual time of 3 pm. We wish everyone a safe and happy two-week break and look forward to seeing your children back at school on Monday the 22nd of July.
|
There will be tears tomorrow when we say farewell to two very caring and dedicated
teachers.
Ashley Miller, from Room 20, is moving to Queenstown where her family live, and
will be teaching at Te Kura Whakatipu o Kawarau… a new school with the most
impressive views.
Shay Teague, from Room 11, is returning to teach in her home town of Te Aroha.
Shay will be teaching at Stanley Avenue School where she went to as a child.
We are very sad to be losing these two amazing teachers. We thank them for the huge
contribution both have made to our children and the life and times of David Street School.
We know they will be hugely successful in their new adventures.
You may know that the country is very short of teachers and we have been extraordinarily
lucky to appoint two very experienced teachers with wonderful reputations for teaching
excellence.
We welcome Claire Hayr to Room 20 and welcome back Janine Fiebig to Room 11.
Both teachers know our school well and are looking forward to working amongst us all.

New TigerTurf Sports Area
|
|
|
|
TigerTurf has constructed a brilliant, multi-sports field for our school, replacing the redundant, broken concrete area near the covered courts. This functional, multi-coloured field is now a perfect space for a variety of sports and activities.
|
It not only serves a practical purpose but also looks wonderfully colourful and inviting for our students. The official opening will be in Term 3.
|
|

Your children's mid-year learning progress reports and dials will be available via Hero by 3.00 pm on Wednesday of the first week of Term 3. Please review these reports and dials before the Learner Conversations scheduled for Weeks 2 and 3.

- Rooms 17, 13, and 20: No Learner Conversations in Term 3 as they have already been completed.
- Room 15: The last booking time is 5:45 PM on:
- Week 2: Thursday 1 August
- Week 3: Monday 5 August
- Rooms 19, 21, 14, and 16: Learner Conversations will follow the same schedule as the rest of the school.

Middle School, Specific Arrangements

- Room 11: Miss Teague has completed her Learner Conversations in Term 2
- Room 11 will have a Meet the Teacher with Mrs Janine Fiebig. These will follow the same schedule as the rest of the school and can be booked via the School Interview Link.

Health Curriculum Survey
At David Street School we continuously review the way we teach to meet the needs of our students, their whānau and communities.
|
|
We are interested in reviewing how we teach the Health & PE curriculum and would appreciate your thoughts.
|
Health and PE Education is collaboratively explored and unpacked by the students and teachers together throughout the year to support our children's learning in these key areas of the New Zealand Education Curriculum.
|
|
A whānau survey will be sent this afternoon via a Hero post to all families and we ask for your thoughts on this area of the curriculum.
|
|
We would like responses sent in by the end of the holidays, please. If you prefer a paper copy please let the office know and one can be sent home.
|

Netball Season 2024
|
Netball season for 2024 is coming to an end this week.
|
We would like to thank everyone involved, especially our coaches and managers. We appreciate the time and commitment you have put into each team and without you, the season would not have been possible.
|
|
Please return netball uniforms to the school during the first week of Term 3. Ensure they are cleaned and ready for the next season. If the uniform came with a numbered bag, please return the bag along with the uniform.
|
- Middle and Senior school Netball Bonds will be credited to your school account upon return of the uniforms.
- If you prefer the bond to be refunded directly, please email the school office at office@davidst.school.nz.

Required Equipment: Mouth guard, shin pads, and a hockey stick (we have a few hockey sticks available at school for borrowing)

There is always a high level of interest in hockey among our students, but we are limited in the number of teams we can enter. Therefore, team entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
|
|
Coaches/Managers: We need parent volunteers to help manage and coach teams during the Thursday afternoon games. If you can help, please provide your details when registering your child.
|
If you are available to take training sessions during lunchtime, please let us know. We will also offer a few training sessions for children new to hockey to teach them basic skills.
|
|
Registration: Please sign up and pay via our David Street School Shop by Wednesday 24 July (first week of Term 3).

Matariki Celebrations
|
Yesterday we had a special morning celebrating Matariki with friends and whānau.
|
|
Thank you everyone who attended our celebrations. The children were excited to show you what they had been learning about Matariki and the Māori New Year.
|
|
|

Piako Cultural Festival at Morrinsville School
|
|
Last week some of our kapa haka group participated in the Piako Cultural Festival held at Morrinsville School.
|
|
We want to extend our appreciation to our tutors and helpers for their dedicated efforts leading up to and during the event. The students' performances showcased their passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning their waiata and actions. Their display of mana was evident and something they should all take pride in.
|
|
It is always a beautiful event, and we are thankful for the opportunity to participate and share with others.

Part-time Care for Kids Team Member
for Morning/After School/Holiday Programme
|
|
|
David Street School has an opening for a new team member for its 'Care for Kids' morning, after-school, and holiday program. The successful candidate will join the team supporting the current Manager in ensuring a quality programme is provided to our families.
|
|
The applicant for this position must be 20 years of age and over. You would also ideally have prior experience in working with children, and demonstrate the ability to oversee and manage large groups of children, as well as coordinate support staff.
|
The position also offers the potential for advancement to a 2IC role, and the added benefit of free childcare for primary school-age children while working at CFK.
|
Hours are expected to range between 8 - 20 hours per week during term time with additional hours available during school holidays. There is some flexibility with hours, which can be discussed with the programme Manager.
|
A police check and safety check will be required. A current first aid certificate is an advantage.
|
|

Principal Awards
|
|
David Street School celebrates children showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school. The recipients of the Principal Awards each receive a certificate and a book.
|
|
Brayden is a curious and self-aware learner. Brayden will always seeks to know more across all curriculum areas by asking thoughtful questions to deepen and clarify his understanding. We love that he is passionately curious - it will take him places.
|
|
Bharvi is such a fantastic learner. She is making great progress in all the curriculum areas. Bharvi asks for help when needed and perseveres when it is a bit tricky! Best of all, she always has a lovely smile on her face.
|
|
Molly received her award for demonstrating great Team Player qualities. She is such a kind and caring member of our classroom and her inclusivity never goes unnoticed. Molly listens with intent and contributes her ideas respectfully, all while thinking of others and ensuring everyone is well looked after.
|
|
Aurora is a kind and caring member of Room 8. She always looks out for others and thinks about how she can help them. In her learning, she thinks about her goals and what steps she needs to take to achieve them. Aurora, keep up your amazing work!
|
|
Charlee brings so much positivity and enthusiasm into class each day. Charlee strives for excellence in all she does and has already made outstanding progress this year. She is a responsible and respectful learner who is a role model to everyone around her.
|
|
Kaisey is an amazing team player and displays such wonderful leadership skills in Room 17. Kaisey is always ready to help others. She is a responsible learner who strives for excellence each and every day.

Reading with Rotary Awards
|
|
Morrinsville Rotary Club and Paper Plus Morrinsville are kindly sponsoring prizes to promote reading in our school and other local schools.
Each term a student from the junior, middle and senior school will be awarded a prize for significant reading progress.
Congratulations to the following students who received an award from Rotary & Paper Plus for outstanding progress in reading this term.
The students received a voucher to buy a book at Paper Plus and a certificate.

Received her award for her constant efforts and positive attitude towards reading. Every lesson Naaz works hard to be the best learner she can be. This is evident through her progress and responsibility in reading. Great work Naaz!

Harrison is a curious investigator who asks thoughtful questions that deepen his understanding of topics. He is motivated to take on feedback and independently action it in his own words. Harrison goes above and beyond in all learning areas and is a natural leader and role model.
