Poppy Day at David Street School
We are supporting the Morrinsville RSA Poppy Day appeal.
|
On the last day of Term 1, we will be collecting donations for poppies.
|
Children can bring along a gold coin donation to receive a poppy and show their support for this worthy cause.
|
Rugby Netball Fun Day registrations due. Sign up your child at the David Street School Shop.

Coming Up in Term 2
- Pizza Lunches: We’ll be having two Pizza Days next term (dates to be confirmed).
- Nothing Naughty Bars Fundraiser: We’re bringing back the popular Nothing Naughty Bars as a fundraiser in Term 2! They were a huge hit last year, and we’re excited to offer them again.
- Yummy Apple Stickers: Don’t forget to remind the kids to bring in their Yummy Apple stickers. By collecting them, we can claim some fantastic sports gear for our school later this year!

Thank You to the Van Rooyen Family & Harcourts!
|
Last week, our Home & School Committee was thrilled to receive a generous $500 cheque from the Van Rooyen family, who recently sold their home with Danielle Callaghan Real Estate.
|
|
This donation is part of an ongoing initiative led by Danielle Callaghan from Danielle Callaghan at Harcourts Real Estate. Danielle has been running a special promotion for families from David Street School who list and sell their homes through her.
|
|

|
On Wednesday David Street School had two teams, supported by Mr Storey, competing in the heats of the EPro8 finals series for 2025.
|
Both teams were amazing, and worked together supporting each other.
|
- The Micro Mechanics with Mac Loveridge, Moss Byers, Levi Bracey and Max O'Brien Strickland came 2nd, just 20 points behind the team that came first!
- The 4Engineers came 4th equal and were only 20 points away from 3rd place. This was Chase Dinnington, Allan Cui, Ridge Hayr and Alex Murti.

All of the students represented DSS superbly.
|

The David Street Micro Mechanics have qualified for the semi-finals.

ANZAC Books in Schools
On Monday we had the pleasure of welcoming Paul Hendra and Kerry Diamond to our school library, where a group of our Year 6 librarians were presented with two beautiful Fittall the Flyer books for our school.
We’re confident our students will enjoy reading the inspiring story of Vaughan Fittall.
A big thank you to Morrinsville RSA & the Morrinsville Poppy Trust for their generous support of local schools through this wonderful ANZAC Books in Schools initiative!

Kauri Team - ANZAC Day Learning

This week, the middle school students have been exploring the significance of ANZAC Day, reflecting on its meaning, and gaining an understanding of what life would have been like for those who served in the war.
|
|
As part of their learning, students participated in a dress-up day, and some were even lucky enough to bake delicious ANZAC biscuits!

Kauri Team - Exploring the Living World
|

The Kauri Team have been exploring The Living World.
|
|
They have learnt about what makes something a living thing and what living things need to survive.
|
We loved investigating animals and how they suit their particular habitat.
|
|
Room 8's learning evolved into creating Habitat Dioramas. They were lots of fun to make!
|

David Street School Takes Over Park Run!
Last Saturday, our local Park Run community gave David Street School an exciting opportunity to host a 'Tamariki Take Over' of the event.
|
Park Run is a global initiative that takes place every Saturday, with 5km courses designed to bring people together for a fun, community-driven experience.
|
Our DSS students stepped up to take on various essential roles for the morning, including marshals, timekeepers, photographers, report writers, scanners, and more. They did an incredible job, ensuring everything ran smoothly!
|
|
They received wonderful feedback from the community, with many praising our students for their organisation and enthusiastic encouragement.
|
|
Well done to everyone involved – you represented our school brilliantly!

Kahikatea Team - Connections
|

The junior team has been learning about 'Connections'.
|
Some of our Year 2 classes have been exploring connections in our community.
|
|
We were lucky to have Heather Furniss come to school to share about the 'Park Run' that she has set up with a group of volunteers.
|
|
We asked her questions about why she set up the Park Run and learned how great it was for members of our community to not only get fit - but to connect!
|
|
|

Connecting with Constable Tash
This week, Constable Tash visited Rooms 15 and 19 to talk to students about her important role in our community.
|
We learned about making an emergency call and the importance of knowing our address.
|
Constable Tash also talked to us about ways to keep safe, and she shared all the tools she has on her gear belt that help keep the community safe.
|

ONLINE FUNDRAISING PROGRAM – RAISE MONEY, WIN PRIZES!

We are excited to announce that the Piako Colour Fest will be held on Sunday 13 April at Campbell Park in Morrinsville.
|
This is a major fundraising event aimed at raising much-needed funds for

The WaterBoy with Lugtons.
The WaterBoy with Lugtons is a Waikato-based children’s charity that breaks down barriers to make sport an achievable option for Waikato kids. We work alongside local sponsors to financially support families to keep their children out on the sports field.
|
We (The WaterBoy with Lugtons) have partnered with School Fun Run (an online fundraising platform) to help boost our fundraising efforts.
|
When you purchase your tickets online for the Piako Colour Fest, please select the “yes” box to sign your child(ren) up to the School Fun Run fundraising program. This involves your child fundraising for The WaterBoy with Lugtons for their participation in the Piako Colour Fest.
|
How does the fundraising work?
|
● Create a Profile online: Visit schoolfunrun.co.nz and set up a student profile. This page will be the hub for all fundraising activities. Your school will be “WaterBoy with Lugtons Sfr” and your class will be your school name.
|
● Share Your Link: Encourage donations by sharing your child’s fundraising page with family and friends via email, SMS, or social media.
|
Students who raise at least $10 can choose a prize! The more they raise, the better the reward. Please check the sponsorship form for prize details. We have reminded students about safety concerns with door-knocking, and we encourage you to reinforce this at home.
|
We welcome parents and family members to attend the event and support the students.
|
|

Prizes must be ordered between 17 April 2025 and 24 April 2025.
