Swimming Events - Senior & Middle School

Next week on Monday and Tuesday we have our Senior and Middle school swimming events.
The David Street School swimming sports are divided into two different events, Competition and Carnival.
Teachers have been assessing students swimming abilities during their swimming sessions. Each child has been entered into either the competition or carnival event.

Your senior / middle school child would have brought home a notice regarding whether they are in the Competition Swimming event or the Carnival event.

If for sincere reasons your child cannot swim on either of the Competition or Carnival event days, then they must bring a note.

All children at either of these events will need to bring 2 towels, warm jumper, water to drink and a larger morning tea/lunch than normal. We are encouraging the children to wear their togs under their clothes to school if possible to save time when we get to the pools. They will wear their David Street hats when they are not swimming and we encourage them to come to school with sunscreen already applied.

Where: Morrinsville Pools at the Recreation Grounds
We will leave school at 9.10am by bus and will be back at school before lunch time

DSS Carnival Swimming

Senior School at the Morrinsville Rec Pools - senior children will travel by bus to and from the pools. Leaving at 9am and returning at approximately 1.30pm

Please see/email your child's teacher if you have any questions around
either of these swimming events.
The David Street Home & School Committee would like to thank the support of parents and family, with the committee striving to positively support the school and students.

Over the past year there has been fundraising from Pizza Days, Ice Block Fridays, Cookie Fridays, Danielle Callaghan / Kevin Deane Harcourts house sales, Raffle Tickets, School Disco, Entertainment Book Sales, Licorice, Livestock Day food sales.
This has helped to provide a new sandpit, cover, and toys with storage boxes, classroom fun money, disco setup & batman, new sports uniforms, School Playhouse Show, and support future school play area upgrades.

The committee is always looking for more parents to join us, so if you are interested in
supporting the school & students come along to our next meeting.

General Information

Covid-19

With the resurgence of Covid-19 in our community and school if your child is unwell and tests positive for Covid-19, we ask that they stay home for 5 days to avoid the spread through our school and to protect our students with high health needs.

Please see our website for information regarding illnesses at school

Sun Smart Policy

School Hat Fees

Our Sun Smart Policy requires that children must wear school sun hats (supplied) in the playground during Terms 1 and 4.

The School charges a small fee of $5 per annum. This fee goes towards maintenance (cleaning and purchasing new hats).

We are able to charge this minimal fee because the Home and School Committee put towards the cost of hats from money raised through fundraising.

Payments
Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after school care program (CFK) and school related items like sports fees etc...

David Street School
12-3437-0000066-00

When using internet banking to pay for school related items/fees please remember to reference what you are paying for and if applicable your child's name and reason for payment, so we can allocate your payment to the correct place. e.g Johnny Smith / Hat
Or reference CFK if you are paying for your child's after school care programme.
Your help is much appreciated.

After School Messages for Students

If you have an after-school message for your child, please phone these through by 2.20pm so we have time to get the message to your child before the afternoon bells.
We do discourage sending emails or private messaging of absences, or after school messages, as we are not constantly checking these forms of communication during the busy school day, and important messages may be missed or not relayed to your child on time.

Late to School/Appointments

If your child is late for school, they need to come to the office and sign in before going to their class.
It is important for students to arrive at school between 8:30- 8:45am so that they can settle and get ready for the start of school at 8:55am.
Children who need to leave school for any reason during the day eg: doctor or dentist appointment, must be signed out at the school office by a guardian.
If someone else is picking your child up you must first phone the office and let us know who that will be.

Absentees

The absence line is available 24 hours 889-7780 ext 1 or you can use our School App to notify us when your child is away.
If your child is unwell please keep them at home and contact the School Office before 9am to let us know.
Download our school APP from your App Store - SchoolAppsNZ
