Tuesday 4 June – Teacher Only Day curriculum development

School is closed to all students for a Teacher Only professional learning day.
|
School resumes on Wednesday 5 June.

Our Care for Kids programme will be running for those who require it on Tuesday 4 June (limited numbers). Bookings are required.
Cost per day is HALF DAY - (5hrs or less) $33.75
FULL DAY - (over 5hrs) $45.00

Bookings can be made through our booking system, which we use for Before and After School Care and holiday programme bookings.

Making Poi
|
Next Friday 31 May from 1.30 pm -2.45 pm in the school hall we will be making practice poi and would love some parents to help.
To be environmentally friendly, we won't be using plastic bags, so we kindly ask for any old t-shirts or knit fabric for the poi, as well as old hair ties or elastics. The rest of the materials will be provided, but if you have dressmaker scissors, please bring those along.

Competitive Cross Country Event
As part of Cross Country running we will be holding two separate events.
|

The first event is a competitive event where placings will be recorded. This will be held on Wednesday 5th June at Campbell Park.
|

The second event is a whole school fun run event at school for all students, no placings will be recorded. This will be held on Friday 7th June.
|
|
The competitive event in week 6 (Wednesday 5th June) at Campbell Park is an opt-in event for those competitive runners in Years 3-6. We do encourage all students to participate however it is not compulsory. It is a long-distance running race.
|
Notices went home with all Yr3 - Yr6 children. If your child would like to compete in this event please complete the form and return it to your classroom teacher by Tuesday 28th May. (Next week)

Principal Awards

|
David Street School celebrates children who have been showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school.
|
The recipients of the Principal Awards each receive a certificate and a book.
|
Cahmalee has achieved excellence in Maths by being honest about his learning goals. By showing kia maia daily he has mastered his addition to 1000. It has been amazing to see Cahmalee show the values of responsibility and kindness by helping those with the same goal. Keep finding challenges and showing that great attitude, you are a Room 10 superstar!
|
Adrian consistently displays our DSS Values in all he does. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and ideas and is developing some sound leadership skills when he is working with others. Adrian is a kind, friendly and respectful student. A fantastic role model to all.
|
Max received his award for being a courteous and respectful team member of Room 16. Max Is a quiet and diligent learner who always works hard to achieve his latest learning goal. He takes pride in his work and strives for excellence in everything he does. We also really appreciate how he is always using his manners and thinking about others.

Poutama received his award for being a great team player and showing respect. Poutama is always kind and caring to his class peers and inclusive of everyone. He always uses his manners and thinks about others. Thank you so much for showing kindness and filling up everyone’s bucket! Keep it up Poutama!

Maya's award is for demonstrating excellence in her reading. She has been working extremely hard to achieve her reading goals and brings a positive attitude to every reading session. Well done for trying your best Maya and keep up the great practice at home!
|
|
Summer demonstrates all of the values in all areas of school life. She is helpful, caring, respectful and a shining light within our class. Summer always looks out for everyone around her and everything she does is done with a smile. Keep up the awesome work.

A big thank you to the Home and School Committee for the generous donation of resource money for the classrooms.! We used the money to purchase indoor games for the Kowhai team, and the students are loving them.

Knitted Slippers
|
|
Room 19 and 21 were lucky enough to have a visit from the Lockerbie Village Knitter Knatter group who have spent lots of time knitting us slippers to wear in the classroom. It is perfect timing with all the cold weather coming in.

Crazy Hair Day
|
|
We had a Crazy Hair Day at our school on Wednesday. Not only was it a fun and wacky day, but with your help, we were able to donate a large amount of food items to the Morrinsville Food Bank. Thank you for helping us give back to our community and help those in need.

Last week was Science Week.
|
In Room 19, we've been busy playing investigator and conducting experiments to observe changes and reactions. Our hands-on experiments included working with milk, skittles, eggs, vinegar, and coke. Throughout our investigations, we've learned some new vocabulary words such as 'absorb', 'merge', 'reaction', 'evaporation', 'liquid', and 'solid'. It's been so exciting to see the different transformations and chemical reactions first-hand.
