These meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school, allowing us to support your child’s learning needs better. They’re also a chance to share your thoughts on your child’s interests, and aspirations for the year ahead, and to ask any questions you may have. We look forward to connecting with you and working together to support your child’s learning success.

Absentees
|
The absence line is available 24 hours 889-7780 ext 1 or you can use our School App to notify us when your child is away.
|
|
If your child is unwell please keep them at home and contact the School Office before 9am to let us know.

Communication
|
Our School App is the primary tool for communicating important updates and information with our school community. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to download it today. Through the app, you can also notify the school of any absences.

For general information, visit our school website, which includes details about our staff, Care for Kids (our before/after school and holiday programme), enrolment, school calendar, and term dates.

Our weekly school newsletter is distributed online through the School App, Facebook, Hero, and email. It’s also available on our website every Thursday. The newsletter contains school news, upcoming events, photos, and other important information.

Elias was awarded for being the perfect role model of all 5 David Street School values. Elias always strives to be the best he can be. He goes above and beyond for his peers and teachers, always lending a helping hand. Elias’ work is always completed to such high standards!

Eddie received his award for the curiosity he shows in the classroom. He is knowledgeable in all areas of his learning and goes above and beyond during our discussions and learning sessions. Eddie is a remarkable team player who selflessly includes others both in the playground and classroom. Ka Pai Eddie!

Bodhi received his award for his progress in reading due to hard work and determination. Bodhi is a self-aware learner who puts his learning goals into action. Keep up the amazing effort!

Ruby received her award for having a courageous start to 2025. She has embraced new challenges and given everything a go to the best of her ability. Ruby has also shown honesty in asking for help if she needs it. Ka mau te wehi!

Leilah always shows respect and responsibility. She is helpful and considerate to her peers and teachers and is an outstanding Room 15 role model! Ka pai, Leilah!

Max received his award for making an outstanding start to his learning journey in Ako Tui for 2025. He consistently shows that he is ready to take on new challenges, share knowledge with his classmates and strive for excellence in everything he does. Max shows all of our David Street School values every day. Keep up the amazing mahi. Ka pai Max!

Graysn McKenzie
Graysn received his award for showing excellence right from day 1 of 2025 - Graysn has blown me away with how he shows all of our school values! He listens eagerly and strives to do the very best in all aspects of school life!

Who are the Home & School?
The DSS Home & School Committee is our school’s PTA Group. Being a member of the Home & School is a meaningful way of supporting your children’s learning.
What Is Our Role?
It is our role to support the school and teachers in matters outside of the curriculum such as organising fundraising for special projects (like the upgrade of the playgrounds/ sunshades/sports dome etc), co-ordinating events like Ice Block Fridays, Pizza Lunches, Discos, and having a better understanding of day to day life at school.

Who Can Be On The Committee?
Any mum or dad, caregiver can join Home and School at any stage of their child's schooling. Being on the committee does not mean you are solely responsible for every fundraising venture that arises. We bring thoughts forward, discuss fundraising ideas and put our collective skills together to come up with some awesome ideas.

Kowhai Team – Seniors Remembering Summer!
|
|
|
On a gloomy, muggy, grim day,
My feet remember the scolding hot sand as I darted across it.
My hands remember digging in the sand, making a sandcastle.
My ears remember hearing the waves crashing.
My mouth remembers the warm and salty fish and chips for lunch.
My legs remember chasing my young nephew around and around.
My eyes remember the sand blowing in them, forcing them to close.
My skin remembers the itchy, stinging sunburn.
My mind remembers that summer will be back again!

It was a cold, wet dark night,
My skin remembers the dazzle of the Light dive onto my skin.
My eyes remember the tropical fish swimming through the coral reef.
My hands remember the soft, smooth skin of the manta rays.
My arms remember the spiky grip of the chameleons.
My tongue remembers the sweet translucent taste of the coconut juice.
My face remembers the salty water glimmering around the tropical island.

General Information

After-School Messages for Students
|
If you need to send an after-school message for your child, please call the school office by 2:20 pm to ensure we have enough time to pass the message on before the afternoon bell rings.
|
|
We kindly ask that you avoid sending private messages regarding after-school arrangements or absences, as these are not always checked promptly during the busy school day. This helps us ensure that important messages are relayed to your child on time.
|
|
Late to School /Appointments
|
If your child arrives late to school, please have them sign in at the office before heading to class.
|
|
For a smooth start to the day, we encourage students to arrive between 8:30 am and 8:45 am so they can settle in and be ready for the school day to begin at 8:55 am.
|
|
If your child needs to leave school early (for a doctor or dentist appointment, etc.), they must be signed out at the office by a parent or guardian.
|
|
If someone else will be picking up your child, please notify the office in advance by phone.
|
|
|
|
Lost Property
|
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
|
|
Any lost property not claimed each term is donated to charity.
|
|
Bell Times
8.15am Children may enter school
8.55am Start of the school day
11.00am – 11.30am Morning interval
12.45pm - 1.30pm Lunch interval
2.45pm Bus Bell
3.00pm End of the school day

|
Note: For safety reasons, pupils should not arrive at school before 8.15am.
|
Those arriving before this time, must wait in the shelter at the main gate.
We do have Before School Care available in our Care for Kids programme from 7.00 am each school day.

Sun Smart Policy – School Hat Fees
Our Sun Smart Policy requires that children must wear school sunhats (supplied) in the playground during Terms 1 and 4.
The School charges a small fee of $5 per annum. This fee goes towards maintenance (cleaning and purchasing new hats.
|
|
|
|
|
We are able to charge this minimal fee because the Home and School Committee put towards the cost of hats from money raised through fundraising.
|
Please check your Hero Financial account as Hat Fees have now been loaded. For those with credit on their school account, hat fees have been taken from this.
|
Payments
|
Fees can be paid via our David Street School Shop or by Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after-school care program (CFK) and school-related items like sports fees etc...
