Enrolments 2025
If you have a child starting at David Street School in 2025, please contact the school office on 889-7780 and check if we have your correct details on file.
|
If you have not informed us of your pre-schooler starting with us in 2025, please also contact the school office so we can enter their details onto our enrolment list.
This will help us with our planning for next year.

Senior Garden Group
|
Our David Street School Gardening Group were generously donated lettuce seedlings to plant from Judith Tanner and Judy Blyth from Lockerbie Village Garden Group.
|
|
Judith Tanner took the time to meet with the children and lend a hand in getting the seedlings into the ground.
|
|
We are so grateful for the support from Lockerbie Village Garden Group - their contribution will help our garden thrive!
|
Thank you, Judith and Judy, for your kindness and expertise. We can't wait to watch our seedlings grow and enjoy.

A Little Bit About Our Gardeners.
Our senior school students have been getting their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare, share and sell the food they have grown for several years now.
|
|
Linley McMillan meets with any senior students who wish to join in a few lunchtimes a week.
|
|
The children have been shown how to sow seeds, grow plants from cuttings, cook what they produce and use their knowledge to research what can be planted during the seasons. They run it from start to finish.
|
|

Reading with Rotary Awards
Morrinsville Rotary Club and Paper Plus Morrinsville are kindly sponsoring prizes to promote reading in our school and other local schools.
Each term a student from the junior, middle and senior school will be awarded a prize for significant reading progress.
|
|
The awards were presented by John Inger (Rotary) and Tracey Waite (Paper Plus).
|
Congratulations to the following students who received an award from Rotary & Paper Plus for outstanding progress in reading last term.
The students receive a voucher to buy a book at Paper Plus and a certificate.

Skyla Van den Bosch (Absent from photo)
|
Skyla is consistently working hard in her reading lessons to be the best reader she can be. Her responsibility as a learner has increased amazingly and this has seen her make great progress in her learning.
|
Jaiden Dawson
Jaiden has a great attitude towards his reading and has made great progress this year. He loves sharing his reading both in small groups and to his teacher, and it has been great to see his confidence continue to grow.

Isla Scott (Principal Award)
Isla Scott:
Isla is a wonderful ‘thinker’. She is able to use a variety of learning tools to delve deeper. Isla constantly asks for feedback and makes changes to her work. She thinks beyond her own world and can connect with ideas that are complex.

Bella Cameron
Bella has made great progress in her reading by taking responsibility for her learning and being self-aware. She is always thinking about what she is learning and putting it into action. Keep up the amazing work Bella!

Room 19 - Ti Rakau
|
Whaea Garrud has been teaching the juniors how to use the ti rakau. We played a game where we had to move 'maui', (left) and 'matou', (right). We had to let go of our rakau and catch the next rakau without dropping it. This took team work, good listening skills

Chile Independence Day
Wednesday, the 18th of September was Chile's Independence Day.
|
|
To celebrate Independence Day, the Chilean people make paper chains with red, blue, and white (the flag's colours) and dance their traditional dances.
|
|
Room 19 and Room 9 were fortunate to have Almendra and Ema's family come to share about Chile's Independence Day and teach us a dance.
|

We are collecting Yummy fruit stickers again this year so we can claim some FREE sports gear for our school!

The more stickers we collect, the more sports gear we can get. So start collecting!

Pop your stickers or labels onto the sticker charts that went home with children this week, then send your full sticker sheets along to the school office.

Riding for the Disabled has a long-established history in New Zealand, providing therapeutic riding programmes to those with physical, intellectual, emotional or social challenges. Last year, I spoke to Rotary Morrinsville Cambridge RDA, with the goal being to raise awareness and reinvigorate community support for the Te Aroha & Cambridge Riding for the Disabled Groups. As a not-for-profit organisation, continual fundraising is required to meet the cost of running the therapeutic riding programmes.

What will the event look like? Just good old-fashioned fun!
Bring your picnic and enjoy a family day out with live music, sausage sizzle, garden walks, games for the young and the young at heart, karaoke, garden trail, quad bike rides, a visit from Marvellous Monty and more.
