Remembering Suzanne (Suze) Osborne-Evans
|
|
|
|
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the sudden passing of Suzanne (Suze) Osborne-Evans, a much-loved teacher, leader, colleague, and friend of David Street School.
|
|
Suze was an integral part of our school from 2010 until September 2022, making an outstanding contribution to teaching, leadership, professional learning, and the wider school community. She taught across Years 1–6 and held a range of important roles, including Reading Recovery teacher, trainee teacher associate, beginning teacher tutor, and Year 2 team leader.
|
|
|
|
|
Suze was also instrumental in developing our school’s digital learning programmes, supporting staff professional learning, presenting at ULearn, and organising many much-loved school events. Her commitment to education was further demonstrated through the completion of her Master of Educational Leadership.
|
|
Above all, Suze will be remembered for her kindness, humility, empathy, integrity, and genuine care for others. She had a lasting and positive influence on countless students, colleagues, and families, and her legacy will continue to be felt throughout our school community.
|
|
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Suze’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
|

We’re excited to perform for you our Senior Production, “Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies” in week 7.
|
This year, we’ll be using 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, and we’re sure you’ll find it an easy and convenient way to purchase your tickets.

Room 19 - Curious Investigators in Food Science
|
Room 19 has started learning about how scientists investigate changes by observing, asking questions, and testing ideas.
|
We have been curious investigators, asking questions, wondering, making connections and sharing our ideas. We are learning that food can change when it is mixed, heated, cooled or left over time.
|
Some of the key science skills we are developing are observing, describing and comparing. We have discovered that, to describe something carefully, we need to use our senses. We put this into practice with a senses investigation where we used our sense of smell, touch and taste to explore different foods. We had to think carefully about what we noticed and use descriptive words to explain our observations.
|
|
We are looking forward to continuing our investigations and discovering what happens when we mix, heat, cool and leave food over time.
|
|

Term 3 Fundraisers
Nothing Naughty Protein Bars
Thank you for supporting our Nothing Naughty bar fundraiser. We will notify everyone via the School App when they arrive.
|
Raffle Ticket Fundraiser
Raffle tickets went home with every child on Tuesday of this week. Funds raised will go towards our playgrounds.
|
|
All tickets are $2 each. Please return money and sold /unsold tickets to your child’s teacher by the 4th of September.
|
There is a Pizza Lunch prize for the class that sells the most tickets. There are 2nd and 3rd-classroom prizes too!
|

Cookie Fridays: Every Friday this term. Place your child’s cookie order by 10 am on Fridays from the Home & School Shop.

Room 7 - Daffodil Art
|
Room 7 has been creating Daffodil Day Art with Mrs McWilliam.
|
|
They carefully sketched the daffodils onto different shades of yellow paper, cut out the pieces and placed them against a bright blue background to stand out. For the stems and leaves, students traced the shapes onto green paper before cutting and attaching them.
|
Finally, they used a dark pastel to outline their artwork.
|
|
Students explored the purpose and value of visual art by creating artwork to raise awareness for Daffodil Day.
|
|
|
|

|
David Street School celebrates children who have been showing our school values in their behaviour and actions at school.
|
|
|
|
Kaion received his award for always giving his best in everything he does. His positive attitude, bright smile, and willingness to keep trying make him a great inspiration and role model.
|
Keep believing in yourself, Kaion, you are capable of amazing things!
|
Kera-Lily works hard to achieve every goal she sets for herself. She is excited when she spots new vocabulary words in books, and Kera-Lily also challenges herself to use them in her writing.
|
Thank you for also being such a caring student who is always ready to help support classmates when they need it.
|

Izaiah received his award for being a spectacularly respectful learner. Izaiah is always listening carefully to instructions and engaged in learning. He shows excellence in all aspects of school life.

Hunter has made exceptional progress with taking responsibility for his learning. He has become an amazing team player in our class by participating in our classroom discussions and working on our class learning tasks.

Thomas received his award for demonstrating perseverance, having a strong commitment to learning, taking the time to work through challenges, and completing tasks to a high standard.

Thomas received his award for his huge growth in all areas of school life! He consistently strives for excellence by actively seeking feedback and putting it into practice. His internal motivation and commitment to becoming the best version of himself is inspiring.

Executive Functions: Organisation

This week, we will turn our attention to the executive function - Organisation
|
- Saves time and energy: Clear systems mean you spend less time searching for lost items or missing things.
- Reduces mental load: An orderly environment and structured thoughts prevent emotional overwhelm and anxiety.
- Improves focus: Sorting information helps your working memory process tasks one step at a time without getting distracted.
- Supports follow-through: Structured routines make it easier to start, manage, and finish daily activities at school, work, or home.

Here is another activity you could do with your children. It’s important to talk about what they need from you to support them. Work on some ideas, then complete the checklist again - what have you noticed?
|
|
- Unpack your bag each day when you get home
- Put things away where they belong
- Put any rubbish in the rubbish bin
- Pack your bag for the next day before you go to bed.
|

New Sports Uniforms

A big thank you to our Home & School Committee and Grass Roots Trust for helping provide our school with new sports uniforms & Jackets.
|
We would also like to thank all our families for supporting Home & School Cookie Fridays and Pizza Lunches. Your continued support of these fundraising initiatives helps make purchases like these possible.

The new shirts are an addition to our previous sports shirt purchase in 2023. They are all black, with different side panels to identify the various teams.
|
|
We are very grateful to everyone who has contributed to making our new sports uniforms possible. We look forward to seeing our students proudly wearing them at sports events.

Senior School - Make It Monday
For Make it Monday this term, our students have been exploring the art world through the eyes of Van Gogh and Picasso. They have spent time researching Van Gogh's landscapes and Picasso's self-portraits, with the opportunity to put these techniques into practice. The goal was to develop their practical art knowledge by experimenting with line, shape, colour, texture, and space.

The students took agency over their work, choosing their own materials and the styles they wanted to recreate. They experimented with paints, pastels, pencils, and pens. Combining their own imagination with inspiration from these famous artists, they developed fantastic visual ideas and created amazing pieces of artwork. They should all be super proud of what they’ve made!

Room 15 Scientists
This term, Room 15 have been investigators by becoming scientists in the kitchen. We are learning to observe, describe and compare what happens when we heat, cool, mix or leave different items over time to see the changes that can occur.
|
We have started by exploring milk as a food that can be transformed into many different dairy products. Our first experiment involved observing how cream is separated from milk and then shaking the cream in a glass jar to make butter. The children made fantastic observations about what they could hear and see as they shook the jar. Like good scientists, they then described what happened during the experiment by writing a story, using their senses to explain what they could see, hear, smell and feel.

Our second experiment explored what would happen if we mixed and cooled the cream at the same time. The children made predictions about what they thought might happen before carefully observing the changes.
|
