This week we welcome Ardia to David Street School.

Our busy and happy winter term ends tomorrow at the usual time. A number of parents have commented on just how tired their children are and we agree that a well deserved break with rest is just what they need.
|
There are some staffing changes to start the new term.
|
|
Regan Simmons has been with our New Entrant Graduates in Room 15 this term, in a “shared teaching” role with Maia Ikinofo.
|
Regan is an outstanding teacher who first began teaching at DSS in 2013. We wish Regan a safe and happy delivery of her third child in the coming weeks.
|
Maia will be joined in Term 4 by her previous and equally amazing teaching partner, Laura Robinson, who is excited to be returning to the junior school after family leave.
|
|
Baylee Klenner, another well-loved teacher and past pupil of DSS, is also leaving us tomorrow after three highly successful years in Room 21. Baylee will be joining friends in Australia and has several offers of teaching positions already. Your children, teaching buddies and school families will miss you dearly Baylee. Thank you for everything you have done to positively influence the lives of your students and families over those three years.

Breanna Doran, a fabulous teacher, has been loving her work teaching collaboratively across Rooms 20 and 21 this term, and will seamlessly become the full-time teacher in Room 21 next term.
|
Emily Hollis, who has been working collaboratively in Room 17 this term, has now been appointed to Room 17 to accommodate the new entrants arriving next term.
|
We are so fortunate to have talented and dedicated teachers to fill these vacancies at a time when teachers are in such short supply across the country… an added bonus is that they already know the school and most of the children.
|
Hannah Clark in Room 12, and Jade Doherty in Te Ao Marama, have now completed their final practicum teaching with us and will be returning briefly to university before beginning their teaching careers next year. You are very impressive young teachers and we wish you well for next year.
|
Thank you to all of our families who have supported our children in so many ways this term from helping in classrooms, trips, coaching or managing teams, clapping at our performances, participating in our learning conferences, and for supporting the values of the school as important guides for growing happy and successful lifelong learners.
|
|
School finishes for the term, tomorrow Friday, at the usual time of 3pm. We look forward to seeing your children back at school on Monday 9 October.

Thank You Home and School
New Sport Uniforms
|
|
Our DSS children got to try the uniforms out for the first time and Soccer/Hockey Fun Day last week. Don't they look smart!
|
|
Thank you to the Home & School Committee for fundraising for our new sport uniforms and thank you to families for supporting Home and School Cookie Fridays and Pizza Lunches.
|
The shirts are all black with different side panels for different teams. Shirts were purchased through PG Promo who also did a fantastic job with printing our school logo onto the shirts.
|
We will be using the shirts for sports throughout the year e.g. basketball, athletics, etc...
|

Home and School Committee Fundraisers

Matamata-Piako District Council School Travel Survey
|
The survey closes tomorrow Friday 22 September.
|
|
There will be prizes for the class with the most responses!
|
The purpose of this survey is to inform and direct how the School Travel Plan (STP) will be developed and primarily how activities are structured to support the students and staff walking to and from school.
This survey will take about 4 minutes to complete and remain confidential. In answering the following questions, please base your responses on how you normally travel on a daily basis.
|
There seems to have been an issue with entering senior classes on their travel survey as only numbers were being accepted.
For those of you with senior children, Matamata-Piako council have allocated numbers to the corresponding senior PC Groups.

Soccer / Hockey Fun Day
|
Last week a mix of senior and middle school children attended the local schools annual Soccer/Hockey Fun Day. The Fun Day is for children who may not have played before to experience these two sports. Our children really enjoyed the day, thank you to our parent helpers for supporting them.

Our Room19 children have been busy over the past few weeks learning about bees and doing some amazing sand saucer art.

The Matamata-Piako Libraries have another exciting offering of free school holiday activities in all of our libraries coming up at the end of this term. These school holidays we have themed our activities around stories of fantasy and creative storytelling. Join in the fun these school holidays.
