Change of Address & General Information
|
In an emergency, the school must be able to contact parents.

Please remember to inform the school if there are any changes to your address, phone numbers, children's medical information, or any other important information you think we may need to be informed of.

Upcoming Events in Term 1
|
NETBALL 2024
Registrations are now open online at our David Street School Shop.
|
The season will begin on Wednesday 1st of May for Years 1/2 and Year 3/4, Years 5/6 will begin on Thursday 2nd of May. All games will be at Campbell Park Netball Courts.
|
It is important to note that there will be a quick turnaround for registrations. The closing date for our online registrations is 5 April, as we need to get our teams registered with the Morrinsville Netball Association before the end of this term.
|

Principal Awards
|
|
David Street School celebrates children who have been showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school. The recipients of the Principal Awards each receive a certificate and a book.
|
|
Thomas has started the year strongly and is such a great Year 4 role model. He is kind and helpful and shows our values consistently throughout the day.
|
Reevey is a remarkable example of what it means to show the DSS values every day! Reevey shows excellence in everything she does, she gives her very best and courageously pushes herself to try new things. She is always polite, respectful, and very trustworthy.
What a star!

William received his award for always bringing a bright positive attitude and showing excellence through everything he does in school life! William strives to reach his full potential and achieve learning goals. He is always willing to help anyone in the classroom and we can always depend on him for any role of responsibility!
|
|
George has had the most outstanding start back at David Street School. He has been striving for excellence in everything he does especially pushing himself in your writing. George is also working hard to be a responsible learner, setting himself up for success when he comes into class in the morning. Keep being awesome!

Aidan received his award for being a role model by showing the school values on a daily basis. Well done Aidan, you are a fantastic leader who strives for excellence every day and is always kind to others. Keep being awesome!

Our Home and School Committee team is sorting Hot Cross Buns and getting them ready to be collected or sent home today.
|
|
If you did not state Collect when placing your order your Hot Cross Buns will be with your child in their classroom.
|
|
If you stated you will COLLECT your Hot Cross Buns, they will be available for collection this afternoon from Room 13.
|
|
Our Home and School team will be there until 4 pm.
|

- When prompted, Please change your child’s classroom from last year to their new classroom. This ensures the order gets to your child's class.
- Please only order 1 Ice block per child.
- Add all orders to your cart and pay for it all the end of your transactions.

YUMMY STICKER PROMOTION
We have a school competition running to see which team (Senior, Middle, or Junior) can collect the most stickers per term!
|
|
Collect the Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers and drop them to your child's classroom.
|
The more stickers you collect, the more sports gear our school gets so get going and start collecting your Yummy cut-out labels and stickers now!
|
Yummy apples are available from New World, PAK’nSAVE, and participating Four Square stores.
|
|
Yummy sticker collection sheets have gone home with children this week.
|

Redevelopment of Campbell Park
|
On behalf of Campbell Park Trust, a committee has been formed to review and
|
|
plan for the next 50 years of our great facility.
|
|
Working with Sport Waikato, a survey will be going out in the next couple of weeks to
|
understand what people think of facilities and how they use the grounds.
|
|
Keep an eye out for the upcoming survey link, as we will be sharing it as soon as it becomes available. Once the link is shared we encourage you to take a few minutes to share your feedback by completing the five-minute survey.
|
Your input is highly valuable, the more feedback provided the better!

Makuhari Junior High Visit
|
On Monday, we had the pleasure of hosting students from Makuhari Junior High School in Japan. Students from Makuhari Junior High, who are being hosted by Morrinsville Intermediate and local families, visit our school every year.
|
|
This exchange provides us with the opportunity to learn about Japanese culture and games, while also sharing our own. It's an event that our school looks forward to annually, as it allows us to form connections with students from a different part of the world.
|

Sun Smart Policy
School Hat Fees
|
|
|
|
Our Sun Smart Policy requires that children must wear school sun hats (supplied) in the playground during Terms 1 and 4.
|
The School charges a small fee of $5 per annum. This fee goes towards maintenance (cleaning and purchasing new hats).
We are able to charge this minimal fee because the Home and School Committee put towards the cost of hats from money raised through fundraising.
|
|
Payments
Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after school care program (CFK) and school related items like sports fees etc...
|
|
When using internet banking to pay for school related items/fees please remember to reference what you are paying for and if applicable your child's name and reason for payment, so we can allocate your payment to the correct place. e.g Johnny Smith / Hat
|
Or reference CFK if you are paying for your child's after school care programme.
Your help is much appreciated.

|
After School Messages for Students
|
If you have an after-school message for your child, please phone these through by 2.20pm so we have time to get the message to your child before the afternoon bells.
|
We do discourage sending emails or private messaging of absences, or after school messages, as we are not constantly checking these forms of communication during the busy school day, and important messages may be missed or not relayed to your child on time.
|
|
Late to School/Appointments
|
If your child is late for school, they need to come to the office and sign in before going to their class.
|
|
It is important for students to arrive at school between 8:30- 8:45am so that they can settle and get ready for the start of school at 8:55am.
|
|
Children who need to leave school for any reason during the day eg: doctor or dentist appointment, must be signed out at the school office by a guardian.
|
|
If someone else is picking your child up you must first phone the office and let us know who that will be.
|
|
Absentees
|
The absence line is available 24 hours 889-7780 ext 1 or you can use our School App to notify us when your child is away.
|
|
If your child is unwell please keep them at home and contact the School Office before 9am to let us know.
|
|

Bell Times
The bell times for morning tea and the lunch break have changed slightly to better suit our children's needs. Morning and end of school day remain the same.
|
8.15am Children may enter school
8.55am Start of the school day
11.00am – 11.30am Morning interval
12.45pm - 1.30pm Lunch interval
2.45pm Bus Bell
3.00pm End of the school day
|
|
Note: For safety reasons, pupils should not arrive at school before 8.15am.
|
Those arriving before this time, must wait in the shelter at the main gate.
We do have Before School Care available in our Care for Kids programme from 7.00am each school day.

Lost Property
|
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
|
|
Any lost property not claimed each term is donated to charity.
|
|
