We are coming up to our final two and a bit weeks of school which are by far the busiest weeks of the school calendar. Please take the time to read our ‘Upcoming Events’ in this newsletter. We would hate you to miss anything.

School finishes in Week 10 at 12.30 pm on Monday 16 December.
|
Office Hours
|
The school office will be closed from 12.30 pm Monday 16th December.
|
|
We will re-open on Monday 20th January 2025 from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.
|
|
Normal office hours will resume on 3rd February 2025.
|

PARENT WHANAU HOMEWORK - your feedback matters
Earlier this week, we sent home a Parent Whānau Survey in paper form, along with a link to an online version you can fill out.
|
We truly appreciate the time and effort many of you have already taken to share your thoughts and ideas. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we strive to become the best school we can be. With your continued support, we are confident we will achieve this goal together.
|
If you haven’t yet completed the survey—whether on paper or online—we encourage you to take a moment as a family to share your ideas with us. Your input will help guide the direction of our school’s development and learning over the next three years.
|
|
As a thank you, all completed surveys (paper or online) received by Monday, 2nd December will go into a draw for a $50 prize.
|
|

A Sweet Reminder:
Lollies, Candy Canes, and Other Celebrations
|
As we head into a season filled with celebrations and excitement, we’ve noticed some students bringing candy canes to share with their friends. While these gestures are made with kindness and generosity, we’d like to remind families of our school policy regarding the sharing of food, particularly sugary treats.
|
For the following reasons, we kindly ask that students refrain from bringing or sharing candy, lollies, or other sweet snacks at school:
|
- Many parents choose not to allow sugary foods or drinks for health, behavioural, or safety reasons.
- Some children feel pressure to bring treats because their friends do, which can create unnecessary stress.
- After consuming sugary treats, children may become overly excited or "hyped up," which can impact both learning and behaviour in the classroom.
|
We greatly appreciate your understanding and support in maintaining a healthy, focused learning environment for all our students.
|

Food Drive for Community House
To do our bit for our community, we are collecting donations of food from Monday 2 Dec.
• Our Christmas Sleigh will be set up in the office entrance.
• Children can take their non-perishable food item to their classroom and we will
collect it during the day and place it in our Christmas.
• Food will be delivered to Community House for distribution.

Junior Athletics Day - Thursday 5 December
We would like to warmly welcome whaanau to our Junior Athletics Day on Thursday 5th December, starting at approximately 9.10 am.
|
|
We will start on the top field with sprints in this order:
|
|
6-year-old boys - 6-year-old girls - 6-year-old FINALS
|
|
5-year-old boys - 5-year-old girls - 5-year-old FINALS
|
7-year-old boys - 7-year-old girls - 7-year-old FINALS
|
We anticipate the sprints will take up to an hour.
|
This year we will not be running our class relays on this day. The lanes will be roped off and our children will be seated in the shade under the trees.
|
|
After the sprints, the children will have a quick drink/brain break, and we will start our athletics skills rotation run by our Year 6 leaders. This year, we have 5 events (approx 12-14 minutes each), so our athletics will finish earlier than previous years.
|
We anticipate finishing our athletics by morning tea (11.00 am) or just after morning tea.
|

Room 17 Learning
Our Room 17 learners have enjoyed their concept learning around 'Innovation in Sports'. They have enjoyed having a go at some different sports themselves.
They turned their amazing high jump skills into some beautiful art and completed some writing about their mahi!

Care For Kids Holiday Programme Enrolment

OSCAR-Approved Before and After School Care,
|
|
and School Holiday Programme at David Street School
|
We are pleased to offer a quality, OSCAR-approved Before and After School Care programme, as well as a School Holiday programme, here at David Street School.
|
|
To ensure your child can participate, all families are required to complete an enrolment form and sign a parent contract prior to attendance.
|
|
You can easily complete this process through our EnrolMy system using the link below.
|

Mrs E's Kitchen This Term
|
Friday Lunches are available on non-Pizza Lunch Days and are delivered to your child's classroom in time for Lunch.
|
|
There are some new yummy options available this term.
|
Mrs E's Kitchen has now closed for orders.
|
The Next Mrs E's Kitchen Lunches will be next week on Friday 13 December. Order by 10 am Thursday 12 December.

|
School Road Patrols
|
Recently a group of year 6 road patrollers were talking together about how challenging it was becoming to manage the pedestrian crossings before and after school. The group decided to investigate the issue. They interviewed parents, teachers and other road patrollers. They discovered that the biggest concern was that cars were failing to stop in a timely manner so that they could put their signs out.
|
|
As a result they have created this poster to raise awareness for the motoring public about how to behave when approaching pedestrian crossings. We are grateful to Cathy Balvert at the Information Centre for her support. The girls will also feature in the Morrinsville News.

Technology Leadership Group and Room 21
|
The Leadership Group have been busy working in Room 21 to support the students in researching a sport from 'back in the day' to 'now'. The tuakana teina relationships have been built throughout the year with numerous other visits and it was great to see their connections.
|
