Welcome to David Street School

This week we welcome Ashriel, Aniel, and Leilah to David Street School.

Road Works Are ‘Everywhere’

It is a fact that the roads, traffic flows and parking around David Street School are being disrupted by contractors associated with various major projects being undertaken across Morrinsville.
While some contractors have been good at letting the school know when and where these
disruptions will occur, the school is mostly unaware of them just popping up.
We are thankful that our parents are using their common sense and providing safe alternative
arrangements or routes for walking to and from school when necessary. Walking to and meeting their children inside the school gate has been successful, as has parking on a side street away from the works and meeting children there has also becoming a predictable safe option… Certainly, driving down David Street to the roundabout is not a good option at the moment.

Guidance on winter illness

and children’s attendance at school

This winter has seen a rise in the usual seasonal colds, flu and other respiratory illnesses circulating within our communities, and schools. Illness can spread very quickly in schools so if your child is unwell, please keep them home to avoid any potential spread.

As of last week onTuesday there is no longer a requirement to isolate due to covid-19, however, as with the spread of any respiratory infections, and recognising COVID-19 is still circulating in communities, it is important that we all follow these infection prevention measures to stop the spread of any sickness through school.
  • A child should stay at home if they appear unwell or they develop one or more of these symptoms: new onset of a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, they are off their food and drink or show signs of feeling miserable.
  • If a child has been unwell with a respiratory illness , they can return to school 24 hours after they have significantly improved and are behaving/eating normally. If they have a clear runny nose or dry cough without any other symptoms such as a fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, then they are unlikely to be infectious and can be considered well enough to attend school.
  • Following vomiting or diarrhoea, a child must be symptom free for 48 hours before they can return to school.
  • If a child becomes increasingly unwell and/or you are concerned about their health, call your GP or Healthline on 0800 611 116 for medical advice.
The more layers of protection we put in place the harder it will be for infection to spread.
