Our next Pizza Lunch has been rescheduled for the last day of Term 1, which is Thursday, 2nd April. Anyone who ordered for 27 March will be automatically carried over to 2 April.

Mrs E’s Friday lunches will replace our pizza lunch on 27 March.

Please do not order from Mrs E if your child is attending the Touch Tournament on 27 March.

Thank you for supporting our Hot Cross Bun fundraiser!

Funds raised will go towards improving our children’s outdoor spaces.

Orders will be ready for collection from the school office on Wednesday 25 March.
If you selected the option for buns to be sent home, they will go home with your child that afternoon.

Attendance Matters
|
|
We want to work together to ensure your child builds great habits for learning. Please note the following:
|
If your child is away, please let the office know by 9.00 via the school app or answerphone. You must provide a reason for the absence.
|
- Justified Absences: medical appointments, illness, bereavement/tangi or exceptional circumstances
- Unjustified Absences: family holidays, birthdays, haircuts, convenience. These will be marked as unjustified absences on the child’s record.
Wherever possible, please plan overseas travel in school holidays.
|
We are committed to supporting your child to attend. If you are having difficulty getting your child to school, you can ask for support by:

- Speaking to your child’s teacher.
- Sending us a message/email.
- Phoning us at school

Netball 2026
|
|
Registrations are open online at our David Street School Shop, which can be found on the school website.
|
Please enrol your child by Friday, 27th of March, as we need to get our teams registered with the Morrinsville Netball Association before the end of this term.
If the registration is not completed by this date, your child may miss out on being allocated to a team.
|
Netball is open to:
Year 5, 6 students - WEDNESDAY afternoons - 3:30 – 5:30pm. Duration: 14 weeks in Terms 2 & 3
Note: Games may start at 5 pm, depending on the number of teams.
Year 3,4 students - Wednesday afternoons, 3:30 - 5:30pm. Duration: 11 weeks in Term 2

Year 0, 1, 2 students - Netball skills sessions starting Wednesday, 22nd of April - 1st of July: 3.30 PM - 4:20pm.
|
All teams will play at Campbell Park Netball Courts.
|
|
|

Senior Literacy
Our senior school learners in the Kōwhai Team have been very busy during literacy time.
|
|
In our reading programme, we have been exploring a range of non-fiction articles about different athletes and public figures.
|
As we read, we have been identifying key ideas and organising them under headings and graphic organisers to show our understanding of the texts.
|
|
We have also been looking closely at how non-fiction texts are structured, exploring new vocabulary, and practising how to summarise important information.
|
To link with our writing programme, students have been focusing on writing pieces that help us get to know each of our learners and what is important to them.
|
|
They have been creating a variety of writing genres with themselves as the main focus.
|
|
These pieces of writing have been brought together into a special booklet all about them, which they are excited to share with others.
|
|
|

Room 10 Writing Focus

Swimming Carnival
|
This term in Room 10, students have been learning to write a recount.
|
|
These photos show their writing about the recent swimming carnival.
|
|
When writing, we follow the writing process:
|
plan, write, edit, revise, and finally publish for an audience.
|
|
They have been organising their ideas using time words such as first, next, then, and finally, while adding details about what happened and how they felt.
|
Alongside this, we have also been learning about the four types of sentences: statements, questions, commands, and exclamations, to enhance their writing clarity and engagement.
|
|
They are beginning to incorporate these sentences into their writing pieces.
|
|
Students then illustrated their writing with a fun picture that captured their enjoyment in the pool!
|
|

Launchpad

You may have seen our friendly Launchpad team around school recently!
What is Launchpad? We run a before-school program where we share Bible-based stories and values through fun,
|
|
age-appropriate sessions during the school week.
|
Our time with tamariki includes stories, discussions, and activities that explore themes like kindness, courage, forgiveness, and respect.
We’re really enjoying being part of the school community and look forward to meeting more of the amazing students here!

Principal Awards
|

David Street School celebrates children who have been showing our school values in their behaviour and actions at school.

Recipients of the Principals' Awards are:

Ronan
Ronan received his award for the responsibility and determination he shows in all areas of his learning. He is a caring team player who is always looking out for others and showing kindness in authentic ways. Ronan’s positivity and generous smile are always appreciated too!
Benna
Benna is a wonderful role model in our class. She consistently demonstrates our school values throughout the day, both in her learning and in the way she interacts with others.
Benna takes responsibility for her learning by always giving new things a go and challenging herself to grow.
Ellie
Ellie received her award for consistently striving for excellence in all that she does. She is always working away and making great progress in her learning, meeting every new challenge with a resilient spirit. Ellie’s kindness toward those around her is truly remarkable, and she is always looking for ways to lift others up. Eliie should be incredibly proud of herself for the person and learner she is becoming.
Arlo
Arlo consistently strives for excellence in all that he does. He lives out our school values each day and is always looking for ways to challenge himself. Arlo listens attentively to his teachers and applies new learning quickly, confidently, and with great enthusiasm.
Sophie
Sophie is an outstanding learner in the Kōwhai Team. She takes on challenges with a positive attitude and perseveres when things get tough. Sophie actively listens to feedback and uses it to improve her learning. She treats others with respect and is highly regarded by her peers.

Room 20
Water Safety and Swimming Skills
|
Room 20 have been having a fantastic time developing their water confidence and safety skills in the pool this term. The children have been learning important beginner swimming skills while also building their courage in the water.
|
We have been practising kicking with flutter boards, blowing bubbles, and being brave enough to put our heads under the water.
The tamariki have also been learning how to float on both their backs and their fronts, which are important skills for water safety.
|
It has been wonderful to see the children encouraging one another and showing determination as they practise these new skills.
|
|
Many students have already shown great progress and growing confidence in the water. We are very proud of their efforts.
|

Our district swimming team had an amazing day at the competition. A total of 36 David Street School students participated, competing against other local schools. A big thank you to all the parents who supported and cheered for our swimmers. We truly appreciate your continued support

Makuhari Junior High Visit
|
Last week we were excited to welcome visiting students from Makuhari Junior High School in Japan to our school for the day.
|
|
The students are being hosted by Morrinsville Intermediate and families.
|
|
It is something that is looked forward to every year where we can learn a little of their culture and games from Japan and share ours.
|
|
|
|

Mountain Biking at the Te Miro MTB Club
|
|
Several children from David Street School enjoy Mountain Biking at the Te Miro MTB Club on Waterworks Road. The Te Miro MTB Club is a volunteer-driven organisation that works to promote and facilitate Mountain Biking in the Te Miro and wider Waikato region. They often have open days and fun family events. Last weekend: DSS students represented David Street School at the Waikato Schools MTB Championships held at the Te Miro Club. The kids were amazing and had such positive attitudes throughout the day.
|

Please look out for the stickers on individual apples and the cut-out labels on bags of apples. The more stickers we collect, the more FREE sports gear we can get for David Street School.
