Easter Tuesday 2nd April - School Holiday
|
The school term and holiday dates are usually arranged so that Easter falls within the term 1 school holidays, Easter Tuesday is often overlooked as it is a School holiday, not a statutory holiday.
|
|
However, there are instances, like this year, when Easter falls much earlier than usual outside of term holidays.
|
Therefore, in addition to Good Friday (March 29th) and Easter Monday (April 1st), school will be closed on Tuesday, April 2nd,
|
|
Our Care for Kids holiday program will also be closed over the Easter break including Easter Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding.
|
|
|

New Enrolments 2024
Do you have a child turning 5 this year, and want them to attend David Street School, or are you unsure if we have been advised of your pre-schooler's details?
|
|
We ask that you get in touch with our school office to ensure we have all the necessary details for your preschooler. This will greatly assist us in our long-term planning.
|
Additionally, if any of your contact information changes, please remember to inform the office so that we can keep our records up to date.
|

|
We are thrilled to accept a donation of $567 as part of the annual Cash for Communities programme!
|
This initiative, made possible by PGG Wrightson and Ballance Agri-Nutrients, aims to raise much-needed funds for rural schools and community organisations across New Zealand.
|
|
The programme typically runs every year from September 1st to November 30th.
|
PGG Wrightson and Ballance Agri-Nutrients donate $1 for every tonne of qualifying fertilizer and $1 for every 10 litres of agrichemical purchased by the farming community when nominating David Street School.
|
We would like to express our gratitude to PGG Wrightson, Ballance Agri Nutrients and the farming community in our local area who nominated David Street School. We appreciate your support.

Upcoming Events in Term 1
|
NETBALL 2024
|
Registration for our school's netball season is open online at our David Street School Shop.
|
Don't miss out! Please make sure to complete your registration and payment of fees by April 5th.
|
|
A small portion of the fees goes towards maintaining our school's netball equipment (balls, bibs, first aid equipment), umpire fees for Yr 5/6, and netball uniform bond which is refundable at the end of the season.
|
While the majority goes to the Morrinsville Netball Association who do an amazing job of organising our local schools' netball season and maintaining the courts/pavilion.
|
The season will kick off on Wednesday, May 1st for Years 1/2 and Year 3/4, and on Thursday, May 2nd for Years 5/6. All games are being played at Campbell Park Netball Courts.
|
|
If you're unable to register online, please pop into the school office for a paper registration form.
|
|

Redevelopment of Campbell Park
|
Campbell Park Trust has initiated a committee to develop a master plan for the ground to ensure it is fit for purposes and provides for the needs of the community.
|
|
The committee includes representatives from the following organisations:

Campbell Park Trust
Sport Waikato
Morrinsville Netball
Morrinsville Sports
Kereone Rugby & Sports
Morrinsville Rugby sub-union
Matamata Piako District Council (liaison person)
|
As part of this process, the committee needs to collect data on what people think of the ground and identify opportunities for future projects. Please click the below link which will take you to a quick 5-minute survey, we encourage all our members to complete the survey so the committee can make informed decisions.

The survey closes on 26 April, the committee wants to thank you for completing the survey and will be providing regular updates throughout the year.

- When prompted, Please change your child’s classroom from last year to their new classroom. This ensures the order gets to your child's class.
- Please only order 1 Ice block per child.
- Add all orders to your cart and pay for it all the end of your transactions.

General Information

Guidance on Illness and Attendance at School
|
|
|
With the change of seasons and a rise in the usual seasonal colds, flu, and tummy
bugs circulating within our communities and schools, it is the perfect time to remind you of our school policy around illnesses.
|
|
|
|
In general, a child should stay at home if they appear unwell or develop one or more of these symptoms: sore throat, cough, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, they are off their food and drink or show signs of feeling miserable.
|
Respiratory Illnesses, colds, flu, stomach bugs and covid-19
|
If a child has been unwell with a respiratory illness, they can return to school 24 hours after they have significantly improved and are behaving/eating normally.
|
|
If they have a clear runny nose or dry cough without any other symptoms such as a fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, then they are unlikely to be infectious and can be considered well enough to attend school.
|
|
If your child tests positive for COVID-19 we ask that they stay home for 5 days to avoid spreading it through our school and to protect our students with high health needs.
|
|
Following vomiting or diarrhoea, a child must be symptom-free for 48 hours before they can return to school.
|

Sun Smart Policy
School Hat Fees
|
|
|
|
Our Sun Smart Policy requires that children must wear school sun hats (supplied) in the playground during Terms 1 and 4.
|
The School charges a small fee of $5 per annum. This fee goes towards maintenance (cleaning and purchasing new hats).
We are able to charge this minimal fee because the Home and School Committee put towards the cost of hats from money raised through fundraising.
|
|
Payments
Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after school care program (CFK) and school related items like sports fees etc...
|
|
When using internet banking to pay for school related items/fees please remember to reference what you are paying for and if applicable your child's name and reason for payment, so we can allocate your payment to the correct place. e.g Johnny Smith / Hat
|
Or reference CFK if you are paying for your child's after school care programme.
Your help is much appreciated.

|
|
After School Messages for Students
|
If you have an after-school message for your child, please phone these through by 2.20pm so we have time to get the message to your child before the afternoon bells.
|
We do discourage sending emails or private messaging of absences, or after school messages, as we are not constantly checking these forms of communication during the busy school day, and important messages may be missed or not relayed to your child on time.
|
|
Late to School/Appointments
|
If your child is late for school, they need to come to the office and sign in before going to their class.
|
|
It is important for students to arrive at school between 8:30- 8:45am so that they can settle and get ready for the start of school at 8:55am.
|
|
Children who need to leave school for any reason during the day eg: doctor or dentist appointment, must be signed out at the school office by a guardian.
|
|
If someone else is picking your child up you must first phone the office and let us know who that will be.
|
|
Absentees
|
The absence line is available 24 hours 889-7780 ext 1 or you can use our School App to notify us when your child is away.
|
|
If your child is unwell please keep them at home and contact the School Office before 9am to let us know.
|

Bell Times
The bell times for morning tea and the lunch break have changed slightly to better suit our children's needs. Morning and end of school day remain the same.
|
8.15am Children may enter school
8.55am Start of the school day
11.00am – 11.30am Morning interval
12.45pm - 1.30pm Lunch interval
2.45pm Bus Bell
3.00pm End of the school day
|
|
Note: For safety reasons, pupils should not arrive at school before 8.15am.
|
Those arriving before this time, must wait in the shelter at the main gate.
We do have Before School Care available in our Care for Kids programme from 7.00am each school day.
|

Lost Property
|
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
|
|
Any lost property not claimed each term is donated to charity.
|
|
