Our busy term has come to an end.
School finishes tomorrow, Friday 30 June at the normal time of 3pm.
We wish everyone a safe and happy two-week break and will see your children back at school on Monday 17 July.

Shared Learner Conversations in Term 3
|
Your children's mid-year learning assessments will be available via Hero the first week of Term 3 for you to view before the Learner Conversations in week 2.
|
During the Learner Conversations our students, parents and teachers will engage in dialogue about:
|
- Academic learning and the next learning steps.
- Social and emotional well-being at school
- Attitude and effort
- And anything else that whānau may wish to ask or share.
|
Please note: Room 9 Miss Moscrip and Room 17 Whaea Ash, have been having their learner conversations over the past 2 weeks this term and are not taking bookings in Term 3.
|

Matariki Open Day
Thursday 20th of July between 11:30 & 12:40
|
Matariki is the celebration of the Maori New Year and is a time to come together.
|
|
We would love you to join us, share some kai and celebrate Matariki at David Street School.
|
|
We will be hosting our Matariki Open Day on the Thursday 20th of July between 11:30 & 12:40.
|
|
Whanau are invited into our classrooms to join us in celebrating our learning and the Maori New Year.
|
|
Each classroom will be engaged in Matariki activities throughout this time.
|
We encourage you to get involved as well!
|
Kapa haka
Our two kapa haka groups Kahikatea (Juniors) and Te Kura O Rāwiri (Middle/Senior school) are performing Thursday 20 July in our school hall at 11.10am. It is our first performance for the year and will be a very special occasion coinciding with our school wide Matariki celebration. Our tamariki are very excited and have been practicing regularly in preparation. We hope that you can join us to tautoko/support and enjoy the kaupapa Matariki theme. Please invite all the whānau, grandparents, aunties and uncles who are all very welcome.

Students come to school in the morning at their usual time.
|

Students need to wear clean, tidy clothing that is easy to move in. Boys can wear shorts.
|

Girls’ hair has to be tied back in a simple ponytail or braids before they come to school. The same applies to boys with long hair.
|

After the kapa haka performance you are invited to visit your child’s or moko’s classroom and they can share their Matariki knowledge and activities with you.
|

We are excited to be hosting it here at David Street School.

'Change' Art Exhibition at the Wallace Gallery
|
If you get the opportunity during the school holidays, take the whaanau to the Wallace Gallery to see the amazing art our DSS children have produced.
|
|
The exhibit is now open in the Community Gallery and will run over the school holidays.
|
Every child in the school has a piece of art on display either on the boards or in a folder at the gallery, and they are so proud of their work. We are extremely lucky to have the Wallace Gallery in Morrinsville to showcase our children's art.

Year 6 Dabble Day
|
On Monday, the year 6 students were lucky enough to participate in a 'Dabble Day', organised by the Waterboy.
|
|
Students rotated through boxing, turbo touch, jujitsu, rugby and skipping.
|
|
Every student had a fantastic time and tried a new sport!
|
|
A huge thanks to the Waterboy organisation for the day, and to the Lions Foundation who provided a sausage sizzle for all the students. A great day was had by all.

Planting Pots Wanted
|
The Senior School Garden Group are in need of some planting pots 10cm x 10cm for seedlings they are growing.
|
|
If you have any going spare, the gardening group would love them. You can drop these off to the senior school or the office.
|
|

Lost Property
|
Unfortunately we cannot keep unclaimed items as we do not have the capacity to store them. Unclaimed clothing from Term 2 will be donated to charity.
|
|
Please name your children's clothing so we can get your belongings back to you.
|
|
Unclaimed property will be put out most Mondays for viewing. It is always available for parents to view during the school day.

Matamata Public Libraries
Coming up in July we have 2 awesome reading challenges to help you get through winter.
Matariki winter reading challenge is for those aged 5-15 and includes activities available during the school holidays.
All the feels is for everyone, and is a fun way to track your reading and learn about emojis and emotions.

Firth Tower Self-Guided School Holiday Activities for July school holidays.
|
Available every operational day from Saturday 1 July to Sunday 16 July for families to enjoy together.
|

Your little ones may need your assistance with some of our craft activities.
|
|
Please check our website for operational days over the holiday period. We will be closed on Friday 14 July – Matariki public holiday.

The activities listed in the link below will be included in the general admission charges.

Monthly working bees usually take place every 3rd Saturday of the month, 1pm-3pm at the log hauler site.
|
|
There are exceptions to this schedule though (e.g. public holiday weekends), and those on the Friends of Pukemokemoke mailing list are notified of working bee dates and tasks.
