We are coming up to our final two weeks of school which are by far the busiest weeks of the school calendar. Please take the time to read our ‘Up-Coming Events’ in this newsletter. We would hate you to miss anything. Next week, Week 9, will be our final newsletter of the year.

School finishes in Week 10 at 12.30pm on Thursday 14 December.

Enrolments 2024
|
If you have a child starting school in 2024, and have not, or are unsure if you have informed the school, please phone the office on 889-7780 and check if we have your child on our enrolment list and correct contact details. This will help us with our planning for next year.

Thank you to Laurina and Brendon Hunt from Hunt Building for kindly supplying our children with ice blocks on Athletics Days. Your support of our school and students is greatly appreciated.

READERS - PLEASE RETURN
|
We are doing a stocktake of all our readers next week. This is all junior readers, chapter books, journals, and library books. PLEASE have a look under beds, behind the couch, and in bedrooms for any books that may have gone walkabout. We don't mind how many you find - we are just keen to have them back! Thank you for your support.

All school library books are due back. Please encourage your children to look at home for any books and return them to the school library.
|

Food Drive for Community House – Mon 4 Dec – Fri 8 Dec
|
We are collection donations of non-perishable items of food for Morrinsville Community House from Monday 4 Dec.
|
|
Our Christmas Sleigh will be set up in the office entrance.
|
|
Children can take their non-perishable food item to their classroom and we will collect it during the day and place it in our Christmas.
|
Food will be delivered to Community House for distribution.
|
|
Dress - up Day Thursday 7 December
|
|
We will be having a fun Summer Holiday / Christmas theme dress-up day on Thursday 7 December. Please don’t buy anything for your child to wear. We will be using what we have available at home.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Tuesday 5 December - Year 6 Social/Graduation Evening
|
David Street School Hall Time: Evening. 6.30pm – 8pm
This is a time to celebrate the end of an important part of our Year 6 children’s education.
|
|
Yr 6 children: Please bring a plate of finger food to share, and dress in your best!
|
Parents of Year 6 children, please join us too and bring along your dancing shoes!
|
|
Wednesday 6 December - Senior Prize giving and whole school celebration.
|
Time: 9:30am – 11am approx.
The programme includes performances from our kapa haka and singing by the whole school. We also recognise our graduate Year 6 students with awards for our most outstanding achievers and graduation certificates.
Weather permitting, the celebration will be held under the covered courts.

Thursday 7 December - Christmas Dress-up Day for Community House
|
|
Kauri Team (middle School) Celebration and Fun Day
|
|
Parents of middle school children should have received a notice home outlining the day.
|
|
Parents and whānau of middle school (Yr3 and Yr 4) are invited to come and celebrate the success of the Kauri team students.
|
|
This will take place at 9:00am in the Hall on Friday 8th December.
|
|
Teachers will contact you directly via email or phone call if your child is receiving an award at the ceremony.
|
|
Directly after the ceremony will be the Kauri Funday, which will take place from 10:00am to 3:00pm also on Friday 8th December. Due to there being many wet activities outside, we would like all students to bring:
|
Togs/Swimwear / Change of Clothes/ Sunscreen / Towel / A Big Lunch
|
Parents are welcome you to stay for the Funday, as this will provide a great opportunity to mix and mingle with the teachers of the Kauri team and see your child having a great time!
|

District Athletics 2023
|
Congratulations to all our athletes who competed in the local schools District Athletics last week.

Principal Awards
|

David Street School celebrates children who have been showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school. Recipients of the Principals Awards were:

|
MIchael Brunton: Michael received his award for such huge growth this year. He is keen to learn and support those around him with a fantastic, helpful attitude. Michael has smashed his learning goals this year due to hard work and perseverance.
|
|
Tyler Gray: Tyler consistently demonstrates a curiosity for the world around him that goes beyond the classroom. He asks thoughtful questions and absorbs any new learning he can. All this while showing the David Street School values daily. Keep being a star!
|
|
Jordan Man: Jordan received his award for showing excellence in the classroom in all areas. Jordan continuously works hard to complete his work to the very best of his ability and always with a positive attitude! He shows the values in every thing he does, ka pai Jordan!
|
|
Emmi Haberfield: Emmi always gives 100% towards everything she does and continuously strives for excellence. Her positive attitude in the classroom is a delight to all and inspiring to others.
|

Reading with Rotary Awards
|
|
Morrinsville Rotary Club and Paper Plus Morrinsville are kindly sponsoring prizes to promote reading in our school and other local schools.
Each term a student from the junior, middle and senior school will be awarded a prize for significant reading progress.
Congratulations to the following students who received an award from Rotary & Paper Plus for outstanding progress in reading last term.
The winning students receive a voucher to buy a book at Paper Plus and a certificate.

Addi's attitude has grown over the year in her reading, she is now wanting to read and be tested on her humpty words. She is super keen and has seen huge progress in her reading.
|
|
Ellie received her award for her positive attitude towards reading and always putting in lots of effort at home and at school! Ellie has made lots of progress this year, thanks to her excellent attitude, well done Ellie!
|
|
Esme received her award for her attitude towards reading. She is reading her own chapter books independently and is keen to keep reading.
|
|
|

Kahikatea (Junior) Athletics Day
|
We would like to thank all the families who came along to support our junior team for their athletics day. It is wonderful to always have so many whaanau come along to our school events. We were proud of how the children all gave 100% effort and how they encouraged each other at the events. We look forward to seeing you at our Wheels and Toys day in week 10.

Get excited for our Summer activities and Reading Challenge at Matamata-Piako libraries!

We're kicking things off this year with a fun party to celebrate the start of summer!
|
|
Join us on Friday 1 December from 3.30-5.00pm for a scavenger hunt with some mystery activities to kick off Read Beyond the Beaten Path, the theme for our reading challenge this year.
|
|
Spot prizes and afternoon tea are available as well. Bring the whole family along to participate - we'd love to see you here!
