Farewell and Thank You Mrs Robinson
|
Mrs Robinson has completed her last day teaching at David Street School after eight
years of wonderful service in our junior school.
Laura has been appointed to Matangi School from the beginning of next term.
This has been a family decision to move to work in the community where she lives, and
where her children will soon be going to school.
Laura has written: ‘I am eternally grateful for the love and support I have received from my
David Street School family.’
Laura is an exceptionally talented and caring teacher. She has built many fond lifelong
memories with our children, colleagues and whānau over those 8 years, and we will
certainly miss her smile, professional expertise, and her warm friendship.
We wish you and your lovely family every happiness and success in your future adventures
Laura.

EPro8 Challenge!
|
|
Last Thursday our two Epro8 teams competed in the inter-school heats of the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Competition.
|
Both teams performed extremely well, and we came away with first and third place.
|
The pressure was on the 4Engineers team when they had to participate in a 4-minute building challenge to decide third place, as there was a tie at the end of the round. Great teamwork and steady hands meant they took out the final semi-final spot.
|
The top three teams move through to the semi-finals early next term, in Hamilton. Both teams will be heading there, with the goal of making the Grand Final later in term 2.
|
The teams are:
1st - Micro Mechanics (Adrian Partridge, Isla Scott, Mac Loveridge, Grace Clark).
3rd - 4Engineers (Lauren Kennedy, Phoenix Ward, Eli Galloway, Curtis Page).
|
The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school science and engineering competition. Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school. These events are designed to promote science, engineering and problem-solving.
|

ANZAC Books in Schools
|
|
|
|
The Morrinsville RSA & Morrinsville RSA Poppy Trust have a wonderful new program called "Anzac Books in Schools."
|
Each year, the trust generously donates new Anzac books to local schools' libraries.
|
We were thrilled to receive 2 copies of the latest book donated, "Violet's Scarf," which is a touching and true ANZAC story from a family in Riverton, South Island.
|
Our school librarians, Isla and Jack, had the honour of receiving these two beautiful books on behalf of David Street School.
|
|
We are grateful for this incredible initiative that helps educate and inspire the next generation about the sacrifices and stories of our ANZAC heroes.
|

|
Morrinsville ANZAC Memorial Service ANZAC Day 25 April.
|
|
Isla Scott, Lauren Kennedy, and Mikiah Goodwin, senior students from David Street School will have the honour of representing our school at the Morrinsville ANZAC Memorial Service.
|
|
They will be laying a wreath at the cenotaph in Howie Park as a mark of respect and remembrance.
|
|
|
|
|

|
|
Values Awards
|
|
David Street School celebrates children who have been showing our values in their behaviour and actions at school. The recipients of the Principal Values Awards each receive a certificate and a book.
|
Sadie Kemp
Sadie received her award for the consistency that she shows in all areas of her learning. Sadie aims for excellence and is always looking for ways to improve through feedback. She is goal-driven and remains positive throughout this. Well done Sadie!
|
|
Nia received her award for having a fantastic start to 2024. She consistently demonstrates our David Street School values. Nia shows courage and excellence in all areas of school, having a can-do attitude and giving things a go. She is a true role model to others around her, she takes responsibility and shows initiative in the classroom. We are so lucky to have you in our classroom. Keep being awesome!

Shae Barlow
Shae has had an exceptional start to 2024. She has stepped up and is driven to achieve her goals. We have already seen Shae display excellence in a variety of situations. She is in for a wonderful final year at David Street School.
Cole Barlow
|
|
Cole is a true David Street learner. He consistently shows all of the school's values and is a great all-rounder. Cole shows respect to his peers and teachers, excellence in his learning and is always taking initiative around the classroom. We are so lucky to have Cole in our classroom. Thank you for being awesome!
|
Samuel is a kind and focused learner who always strives to meet the school's values. Samuel challenges himself to try his best in his learning and achieves excellence by being an honest learner. Well done Samuel you are a focused Year 3 leader who demonstrates our school values each day.
|
Cooper displays a positive attitude to all learning throughout the whole term by striving to do his best. He carries out his responsibilities with maturity and can be relied on to get things done. Cooper is a great role model who consistently displays our values.
|
Almendra is a determined learner who is keen to succeed. She has made exciting progress in her writing already this year because of her focus and ‘can do’ attitude.
|
|
Indi consistently demonstrates genuine kindness and respect towards her peers and teachers. Indi’s empathetic and inclusive nature has enriched our classroom and school culture. She shows compassion to others, determination to learn and willingness to try new things to become the best learner she can be. Her positive attitude in all she does is admirable, making her a great David Street School role model. Well done Indi!

Reading with Rotary Awards
|
|
Morrinsville Rotary Club and Paper Plus Morrinsville are kindly sponsoring prizes to promote reading in our school and other local schools.
Each term a student from the junior, middle and senior school will be awarded a prize for significant reading progress.
Congratulations to the following students who received an award from Rotary & Paper Plus for outstanding progress in reading last term.
The students receive a voucher to buy a book at Paper Plus and a certificate.

Alexis Henry
Alexis is a very engaged reader. She thinks about what her goals are during reading sessions. She ensures she practices the skills she needs during independent learning time.
Arjun Thiara
Arjun has such a positive attitude towards reading. He not only loves reading but also enjoys sharing with his teachers the exciting chapter books he’s currently exploring.
Kaya Kesha
Kaya is very engaged in her learning, always lesson-ready and demonstrates the skills she is learning in her reading and writing.

Ashley Robb (Principal Award)
|
|
Ashley received her award for being a confident investigator, and she does this by making connections between her reading about our concept. She places this information into her own words. She puts her own 'spin' on this and adds details through her unique author's voice.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
YUMMY STICKERS
As part of the Yummy Sticker Promotion, our school has been hosting a Team competition where the Junior, Middle, and Senior teams compete each term to collect the most Yummy Stickers!
|
This term, the Senior team emerged victorious and was awarded the Apple trophy, which they will keep until the end of next term.
|
|
Stickers are collected by each classroom and tallied at the end of each term.
|
In late September, the stickers are sent to the Yummy Fruit Company, and our school will receive a share of $200,000 worth of free sports gear based on the number of stickers collected!
|
|

Do you have a child turning 5 this year, and want them to attend David Street School, or are you unsure if we have been advised of your pre-schooler's details?

Lost Property
|
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
|
|
Any lost property not claimed each term is donated to charity.
|
|
|
|
|

Redevelopment of Campbell Park
|
Campbell Park Trust has initiated a committee to develop a master plan for the ground to ensure it is fit for purposes and provides for the needs of the community.
|
|
The committee includes representatives from the following organisations:

Morrinsville Netball
Morrinsville Sports
Kereone Rugby & Sports
Morrinsville Rugby sub-union
Matamata Piako District Council (liaison person)

As part of this process, the committee needs to collect data on what people think of the ground and identify opportunities for future projects. Please click the below link which will take you to a quick 5-minute survey, we encourage all our members to complete the survey so the committee can make informed decisions.

The survey closes on 26 April, the committee wants to thank you for completing the survey and will be providing regular updates throughout the year.
