End of Year Reflections – 2024
As we draw the 2024 school year to a close, our school has been a whirlwind of happy celebrations, tears of farewell, goodwill, and the realisation of challenges overcome.
A highlight for many has been the recognition of our Year 6 students at the Senior School Prizegiving and at their Leavers Social this week. They are a wonderful group of courageous learners who are now ready, with the values, knowledge, and attributes they have developed, to succeed in the world beyond David Street School.
These students have been great ambassadors for their families and teachers, and we are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.
Farewell to Staff Members
We are sad to be losing several staff members at the end of the year, each of whom has contributed immensely to the success and spirit of our school community.
- Jocelyn (Joc) Mitchell will be leaving us to work in the English team at Morrinsville College. Joc has a special love for working with young people, particularly in literacy, and will be greatly missed by us all after nine wonderful years with the Kowhai team.
- Paula Reid is leaving our Learning Support Team to spend more time with her family and focus on her hairdressing business. Paula’s love, care, skill, and commitment have made a lasting impact, and she will be missed after nine years of dedicated service supporting our children and teachers.
- Krystal Roskam has provided teacher release in the Kowhai team for several years. She is leaving us to take up a leadership role at Newstead School, where her children attend. Krystal’s knowledge and enthusiasm have been legendary, and we wish her all the best in her new role.
- Hayley Arnold has been an excellent parent helper in the junior school for two years and a learning support teacher for two terms. Hayley has been accepted into Teachers College at Waikato University, beginning next year. We are hopeful that we will see her back as a fully qualified teacher one day.
- Stephanie Skilling is returning to Waikato University to continue her teacher training after a successful practicum in Room 12 and a stint as a learning support teacher. We are delighted that Stephanie will continue her work with our Care For Kids programme next year.
We thank each of these wonderfully dedicated and caring staff members for their service, and we wish them every success in their future endeavours. Thank you!
I am privileged, as principal, to work alongside such an amazing team of teachers and support staff. Together, they create our successful, happy, values-driven, and learning-focused culture. Our children are true stars, and they bring us joy every school day.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our parents and the broader school community for their generous support and encouragement throughout the year.
Wishing you all a Happy Family Christmas and a Happy and Successful New Year!
