Reminders
|
Tomorrow we have our first lunchtime Ice Block Friday of the term. This replaces Cookie Fridays. Ice Blocks can be purchased from the Home and School shop for $1. Please get your orders in by 9:15 am on Friday morning.
|
Just a note: If you pre-purchased cookies for the term these will be swapped out for ice blocks.
|

Calendar Art orders close at 9am tomorrow, Friday. Please place your orders before then so you don't miss out. There are calendars, cards, diaries, notebooks and mousepads available to order. These make fantastic Christmas presents. Your child's unique code went home with children a few weeks ago.
|

This teacher-only day has been set by the Ministry of Education and provides schools and kura with dedicated time to understand, prepare and engage with changes across The New Zealand Curriculum refresh.

Tuesday 14 Nov - Diabetes Awareness Blue Day

Diabetes Awareness Day is this
|
|
We have a few Type 1 diabetes children at our school and DSS will be wearing BLUE this coming Tuesday 15 November to show our support to our friends and family with diabetes.
|
Type 1 Diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and is an autoimmune disease. The immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin. People with type 1 diabetes need to inject insulin to live.
|
|
|
|
Wednesday 15 Nov - Kōwhai & Kauri Athletics (Yr 3-6)
The athletics day for our senior and middle school is on Wednesday 15 Nov.
• Start 9:10am approx
• 12:30pm Children will break for lunch at this time.
• The Sprint finals and relays are after lunch, start time is approximately 1.40pm. All spectators are invited to stay and watch on the bank.
• Each age group will rotate around in approx. 20-25 min intervals.

Postponement Day is Thursday 16 November
Notification of postponement due to weather conditions will be made via our school app and facebook page on the morning of Athletics day.
|
Below is the outline of the programme, these are approximate times and can vary,
so please arrive early if you are coming to watch.
|
|
High Jump and Long Jump Qualifying
|
|
The children have pre-qualified for Districts Athletics in both High Jump and Long Jump before athletics day.
|
|
On the day there will be a competition jump, and a fun one. Children will know in advance if they have qualified. This is done due to time constraints and not being able to complete it all on the day.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Thurs 16 Nov Kapa haka Whānau Evening Performance
|
We invite all whānau of our Kapa haka junior and middle/senior groups
|
to a special kapa haka evening performance.
|
|
Both our senior/middle and junior kapa haka groups will be performing under the covered courts on Thursday 16 November at 5.30 pm.
|
|
Notices went home to our kapa haka whānau, inviting them to join us for an evening of entertainment.
|
Please return the form that was attached to the notice by tomorrow, Friday 10 November, so we know how many people we need to cater for.
|
|

Indi Johnson
Indi received her award for consistently being in the ‘performance zone’. She strives for excellence in everything that she does and is determined to do well in her learning. Indi always celebrates the success of others and is a role model to her peers.

Kylahn Rogers
Kylahn consistently demonstrates our David Street School values. He is a great team player, always willing to help his friends and others around him. Kylahn is super kind and respectful to his teacher and peers. We are so lucky to have him in our class, always being a great role-model for others. Keep up the great work Kylahn.

Anaeya Evans
Anaeya received her award fro having an amazing attitude towards her learning. She always puts in her best effort, showing excellence in all the she does. Keep up the hard work and you will keep moving up!

Harman Singh
Harman demonstrates our DSS Values consistently. He takes on every learning challenge with positivity and takes on feedback to improve. It has been wonderful to see Harman’s confidence grow over the past 2 years. Well done Harman!

Skylaa Warren-Cox
Skylaa received her award for displaying a positive attitude in all areas of her learning. She is a self-aware learner who is always looking for ways to improve on and upgrade her writing, and because of this she has had phenomenal improvement this year.
