Piako Gymsport Festival 2024
|
Venue: Morrinsville Events Centre (Ron Ladd Place, Morrinsville)
|
|
Dance groups to come to school as normal. We will be leaving school at approximately 11.30am to head down to the Events Centre.
|
|
Gymnasts, please be at school by 8:15. The gymnastics groups will be leaving at approximately 8:35
|
GYMNASTICS AND DANCE STUDENTS ONLY- If your child has entered the gymnastics competition and is also in a Dance Group, they will go down the the Events Centre in the morning as they will be competing before the dance competition. A notice with the gymnastics details will be sent home with your child.

Ice Block Monday
|
Place your child's ice block order via the Home and School Shop by 9.30 am, Monday morning.
|
Piako Schools Cultural Festival
The annual Piako Cultural Festival is a highlight for our community and our kapa haka group.
Early Childhood Centres, Primary schools, Intermediate and College from around the district are involved.
It is a wonderful day of performances for our tamariki and celebrating Te Ao Maori.
|
|
This year the Piako Cultural Festival is being held at Morrinsville School next week on Thursday 27 June.
|
Here are a couple of details you will need to know:
|
The pōwhiri is starting at 9.00 am.
Our Group is scheduled to perform at 11.30 am.
Please note the time of performance for our children is a rough guideline and could change. We advise those who wish to watch their children perform should arrive early.
|

Matariki Day Celebration of Learning
Matariki is the celebration of the Maori New Year and is a time to come together. We would love you to join us, share some kai, and celebrate Matariki at David Street School. We will be hosting our Matariki Open Day on Wednesday 3rd of July between 11:30 & 12:40.
Whanau are invited into our classrooms to join us in celebrating our learning and the Maori New Year.
Each classroom will be engaged in Matariki activities throughout this time. We encourage you to get involved as well!

Friday Lunch Orders

We are now offering Friday lunch Orders at School. Lunch orders are placed through Mrs E's Kitchen + Catering at the link below.

Orders for this Friday 21 June have now closed.
|
Friday Lunches will be available again during the last week of term on Friday 5 July.
|
Last day of Term 2. Our School will close at the usual time of 3.00 pm.

Blessing of our Poi
Today we were honored to have Te Ao Marama visit David Street School and bless our new poi for our kapa haka group.
|
The children performed a new waiata, "Te Karanga o Raawiri," composed by Te Ao Marama’s mokopuna, Roimata Morrison.
It was their first time presenting it, and they did a beautiful job.

Washing Machine Wanted

Part-time Care for Kids Team Member
for Morning/After School/Holiday Programme
|
David Street School has an opening for a new team member for its 'Care for Kids' morning, after-school, and holiday program. The successful candidate will join the team supporting the current Manager in ensuring a quality programme is provided to our families.
|
|
The applicant for this position must be 20 years of age and over. You would also ideally have prior experience in working with children, and demonstrate the ability to oversee and manage large groups of children, as well as coordinate support staff.
|
The position also offers the potential for advancement to a 2IC role, and the added benefit of free childcare for primary school-age children while working at CFK.
|
Hours are expected to range between 8 - 20 hours per week during term time with additional hours available during school holidays. There is some flexibility with hours, which can be discussed with the programme Manager.
|
A police check and safety check will be required. A current first aid certificate is an advantage.
|
|

District Cross Country
|
We had a total of 47 students qualify for the inter-school District Cross Country which was held at Tahuna Golf Course last Wednesday. Well done to everyone who ran on the day.

Mud Run 2024
Some of our Year 5 and Year 6 students had the opportunity to attend the annual Mud Run held at Ngaruawahia yesterday. The children had so much fun as you can see from the photos. Made all the more exciting by the mud!
Thank you to parents who attended and supplied transport, comments from parents and children have confirmed what a great event this is.
